30 British Gas Cashback 21st Sep 16 at 3:12 PM
I have just been sent an e-mail saying I can switch my energy supplier as there is a better tariff and get 30 cashback.

However, I am already with British Gas so would switching to a new tariff on the same supplier mean I wouldn't get the cashback?

    Who sent the email?

If it is for the collective BG Oct 2017 tariff (from the CEC/MSE) then you will get the 30 cashback from MSE.

EDITED: Sorry, just realised you said that, but I didn't clock what CEC was short for.

    HI pollyanna24,

Even though you're already with British Gas, you'll still be eligible for the 30 switching cashback if you switch to the BG Collective Fix Oct 2017 tariff!

    Thanks,
    MSE Laura

I think I have changed the tariff as when I check online, it says Oct 17, but no mention of the 30 cashback. Plus my monthly payment has stayed the same.

    Hi pollyanna24,

When you switch to a different tariff with the same supplier, the monthly costs shown on CEC are the amounts you'd be paying on the new tariff if your usage doesn't change. However, most suppliers don't actually automatically update your direct debit if you change tariffs with it.

Even though you're on a different tariff with new rates, your direct debit isn't usually updated until your next direct debit review (which is usually every six months).

All this means that you might build up some credit in your account with your supplier. Although if you don't want this then some suppliers will allow you to amend your direct debit on the phone or online. If you want to amend your direct debit payment, you might find it useful to give the specialist collective team at British Gas a call about this on 0800 975 9712.

With cashback, this is paid once British Gas has confirmed your switch as 'live' to us and passed us along the switching referral fee. It can take around 3-5 months for this process to be carried out and for cashback to be paid, but we'll send you an email once British Gas has updated us on your switch.

    Thanks,
    MSE Laura
