'Ghost touch' on Moto G4 31st Aug 16 at 9:40 PM
I've had my Moto G4 since they came out (May or June?) Just over the last few days it's virtually unusable most of the time. Apps are being randomly opened and closed, as though it's been taken over by a poltergeist. Has anyone else had this problem with a Moto G or any other phone?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

have u switched off & On again.
Do you install a recent App which is misbehaving?

    if that fails?

Factory reset in settings cures most probs

I've switched on and off several times to no avail. Have uninstalled some apps with no effect. I'm going to phone Motorola tomorrow, although they may well suggest a factory reset. It will be extremely frustrating if I do that and it still doesn't help!

    Do a factory reset yourself.

Most of your apps and settings come back again when you sign in afresh.

Obliged if you could us advise of outcome as a lot of my friends have the G4

This uninstalls all apps that you added yourself. I installed Fitbit and Myfitnesspal and it was fine. I've just reinstalled BBC Weather and it immediately started playing up, so I uninstalled it and it was fine again. Strange, as I have had BBC Weather since soon after I got the phone months ago.

I have G4 plus, don't have such problem.

Is it a hardware problem or software problem?
Will there be any help with factory reset?

Prior to re-installing BBC Weather I had only reinstalled Fitbit, Myfitnesspal and the ID mobile app, as far as I can recall. All of which had coexisted quite happily with BBC Weather previously.

It's not BBC Weather! I've done a factory reset several times and every time I install an app - any app - the ghost touch starts again.

I reset it yesterday and as soon as I installed Fitbit it started playing up again. I reset it again today and am going to wait and then install a different app to see what happens.

This doesn't just happen when it's charging, it happens randomly and I can't find any pattern to it.

If anyone can help I'd he most grateful.

    The saga continues.

The phone was sent for 'repair' in October but was no better. I asked for a replacement and they said they only offer a replacement after 2 failed repairs. The second repair failed and I've asked for a refund, which they've refused to give me.

As they were notified of the fault when I'd had the phone less than 6 months, I've pointed out that they are in breach of the Consumer Rights Act, 2015, by refusing me a refund.

In the absence of a meaningful reply from Motorola I have raised a Section 75 claim with Barclaycard.

I will never buy from them again. Their customer 'service' is appalling.

I would be interested to know if anyone else is having problems with 'ghost touch' on Motorola phones. It is a known fault but not one they're interested in addressing.

I started experiencing ghost touch on my G4 soon after purchasing it last June (directly from Motorola). At first it was only when it was being charged but then it started happening all the time, and by March this year it had got so bad it was unusable. I've followed the steps you followed, and my phone is now back from its first repair - and it started having problems again after 3 days.

Each time I've followed Motorola's advice I've had to wipe the phone and reinstall everything afterwards.

I've asked for a refund and they've said no, and also said they won't replace it. They want me to send it back again for another repair. I've owned it longer than 6 months so I have no alternative (as far as I can tell ) to do as they've asked me.

Motorola's customer service reps seem to be following a script and don't seem aware that this problem isn't fixable. It's appalling service and I won't be buying another product from Motorola.

If anyone has ever had a fix for this that works, please let me know.

Does the problem exist on the G4 Play also?

I've got a G4 Play and do not have the 'Ghost touch' problem, but I haven't updated it to the latest System update yet. Im wondering if the problem happens when it's updated.

As an update on my "ghost touch" problem, Motorola refused a replacement or refund in response to the Consumer Rights Act 2015 letter I sent them (using a Which? template).

Using the small claims court online service (£25 fee) was quick and easy, and resulted in a refund. It was still a struggle to get them to pay promptly, but I stuck to my guns and insisted they comply with the terms of the legal action and not to their own slow and laborious process.

My phone is totally unusable; I took video evidence of the ghost touch before raising the court claim and I have evidence of it making 11 calls in succession so quickly that the calls couldn't possibly have been made by a human. There's also more than enough evidence on online forums of this issue. If Motorola hadn't refunded the full cost of the phone plus my legal fee, I would have had no qualms about taking it to court if that had been necessary.

They told you; they issued a LBA and then made a small claim. Motoral then paid up before it went to court.

    Ghost touch on G4
I have also had this problem recurring - firstly just when I was charging it, now it happens randomly, which is not only very irritating but potentially very inconvenient as my husband is quite poorly and I really need the security of a reliable phone, in case of an emergency.
Tesco today refused to replace the phone in-store, saying as was more than 30 days (bought it in Jan on contract) they could only return it to the manufacturer for assessment. I then chatted with Customer Service via chatbox, who suggested I buy a cheap phone (£14.99 which they would credit me with) they would then return my G4 while still allowing me to use my sim-card. I suppose this is one answer, but I see that this problem still sometimes persists even after repair. I am not hopeful...
