    I have painted a few kitchens in my time.

    I would strip the wood all the way back and treat as virgin wood. The easiest is to varnish or wax. The hardest is to get a smooth finish.(12 coats... next time I would pay a garage to spray paint them). A paint effect is dead easy to get a good finish.

    I missed that till SSM posted , do you have 4 accounts then?
