Looking at changing to the 123 3% account but i am hearing a lot of problems with customer service etc.

What are peoples opinions and experiences with them?

How safe are they really it seems to change hands a lot to?

    Thanks for any help

Been with them since they started the 123 account with the 3% rate. Seem okay, don't have much to do with them really it's a glorified savings account.

First Direct are the best as far as customer service is concerned.

Counter staff and phones a bit hit and miss, but the back room and secure message message gang have been excellent.

Santander suck.... They can't cope with any enquiries that aren't basic. I have lost count of the hours I have wasted on the phone trying to resolve more complicated issues. I hate them, unfortunately we are stuck with them because my husband works for them.

This is a fairly old thread now but will join in anyway. We have been with Santander for about 15 years now (previously Alliance and Leicester). Not had any issues but disappointing when they made the Santander 123 less attractive. The customer service I have always found to be fine.

Another commendation for Santander. It is being my main current current ( Girobank and Alliance and Leicester previously). Use it as the "hub" for all the high interest current accounts it feeds with no problems. Like Nationwide, you can contact them online using secure messaging thus avoiding phone calls and the endless options that that entails going through (TSB BOS Halifax Lloyds do not provide online secure messaging).

    Back to Santander . . .

I am a customer (123 account, Cash ISA) and have recent dealings with this Bank in my capacity as Executor of my late mother's accounts.

An error occurred when Cash ISA accounts in the name of the deceased were closed - it became apparent that interest had been underpaid to these accounts! Whilst the amounts of underpayment were nominal, I wished to ensure that the correct amounts were paid.

I raised this issue with the specialist Bereavement Team (at their request as a complaint) - and after a delay lasting a number of months they finally accepted that they had underpaid and offered 'human error' and 'back office systems' as the reason.

I accepted this explanation, but was not satisfied with the way the complaint was handled: the member of staff allocated to deal with the matter did not return phone calls as promised, and he was also untruthful about his dealings with me. He maintains that he phoned me on one particular day - I was at home and no call was received. Furthermore, no call was logged on my ansaphone. I spoke to his Supervisor who offered to investigate as she said she would be able to trace the record of calls made by staff. After a further delay, the Supervisor admitted that there was no log of any call being made, however she chose to believe her member of staff as she believed him to be honest!
