Positive drug test - poppy seeds!!! beware!! 8th Feb 16 at 10:30 PM
    Hi there.
This morning done urine drug test by employers request. Drug test screening for Urine test drug came out positive for opiates (COM). I have done it twice in the presence of employer.
To my shame and frustration both time drug test came positive for opiates, despite I have done another drug test Friday, 5th February (three days ago) and it came out all negative. Of course, because I never ever tried a drugs. I spent half day for doctors and wasted £120 for doctors -no one seems to know a cause until I accidentally saw a white bloomer from Morrison shopping centre in my kitchen. Hell, I had a breakfast just before drug test containing four large slices!! I googled poppy seed opiates and found that poppy seeds providing large amounts of morphine in urine and causing positive for opiates. Sorted! printed some info and booked (again!!) visit to local GP. This time I took evidence: info from Wikipedia. This time doctor was more softer and wrote down letter saying positive opiate test was possibly indicated by poppy seeds, as patient believes it.
I am going tomorrow with this letter to employer (agency). Can I still apply for a job and drug test on the same company? Or it is over?

I would say this information is bit more reliable! Can you show a receipt for your white bloomer bought that week-end? That might help your case.

What type of job is it that requires drug testing? I find this general creep towards employers sticking their nose into employee's private lives quite concerning. I can't really see the justification for drug testing unless perhaps you are doing a safety critical job like a pilot or surgeon, but even then without reasonable suspicion it hardly seems proportionate.

The employers have a duty of care towards passengers and other workers - as do the workers themselves.

Can people stop loaning money/being a guarator to family/friends, it rarely ends well and you lose out as your money is gone or you get shafted with being a guarantor.

I don't get this, surely if you tested positive in urine your employer would be requesting more accurate samples like blood or hair?

It is a very complicated test and I personally do not believe that they people did not know about poppy seeds. Especially when they employing for an alcohol distribution warehouse job on a weekly (might be monthly) basis and doing this test on weekly (monthly) basis.
I heard stories on net that an entire platoon in army have failed drug test because on breakfast they had poppy seed bread. And of course, after research they have been reinstated.

    Co codmol would test positive.
I don't think that the urine testing kits we use at work would pick up the metabolites of poppy seeds - I've never head that excuse.

And I've been given lucozade in a pee pot.

    - me you wee looks a very dark orange and appears to be lightly fizzing. Oh look a lucozade bottle in the toilet bin!

    - client - oh urrrrm. Have you got another pot?

    - me yes. Do we need to bother though? What have you used?

Any doctor worth his/her salt would know to ask about poppy seeds and suchlike with respect to false positives...

Poppy seeds on that bagel you love can cause a urine drug test to come back positive for opioids. Poppy seeds are also used as a flavorful ingredient in many popular foods,
