    Hi All

Welcome to the Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge 2016 -

I joined this challenge last year and did quite well till I had to buy new glasses then it wiped out my pot but I returned and managed to make my target. (Yay go me)

Been lots of posts on the 2015 thread asking about a 2016 one so here it is

Many thanks to Spam.Jam, Palema, Flat Eric, Keza and Nix143 who have run previous challenges. Below are links to the previous threads if you wish to have a look.

    Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge 2012
    Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge 2011
    Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge 2010
    Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge 2009

VSP 2016 will start on 1st January 2016 and run till end of 30th November as many people stopped updating last years thread by this time and started to use their pots for Christmas presents or bills this is open to discussion though what do others think?

I will try to do a update at the end of each month, please could you put your challenge numbers in your signature so it is easier to spot any declarations.

Good luck with VSP 2016, looking forward to beating previous years targets.

Sorry to hear you're in so much pain again Westie - hope you're feeling a bit better and have managed to get some sleep. I've had a couple of nights with very little sleep but overall I'm doing a lot better than I was xx

Thanks for your concern, I think some of my pain maybe self inflicted and me doing too much as I have been training for a channel swim!! raising money for Aspire a spinal charity if anyone is interested in looking up more about it then give the name a google.

The challenge is to swim the length of the channel over three months in your local pool. I was on target to do this but now I have unfortunately been given a operation date slap bang in the middle of it, but I will try to clock up the lengths before so the weeks I'm out of action wont matter so much and will try to get back on it afterwards. 1216 lengths its a mighty challenge but I'm going to try my very best.

First of all, Westie that is an amazing accomplishment!! And so great for you raise money for charity in the run up to an operation

Now to the VSP... many apologies for not declaring August on time but I've been unwell the last few weeks, really need to get back into the swing of things too. It doesn't help that August looks very messy on my online bank statement because I overspent and had to borrow money out of my savings I will go away to do some maths and come back later tonight or tomorrow with a number to declare

Also Ruth, I was skimming the thread to catch up and saw that you were asking about a H2B ISA, I opened one in this year but didn't put the £1200 in as I didn't want to take money out of my VSP so only put in £200 to start with + the monthly £200. As for finding the monthly £200, I set mine up to take £200 out on payday, it's a pain when I overspend but because my H2B is with Halifax and I don't hold any other products with them, it's easy to forget I have that money and let it accumulate invisibly (And I mean that quite literally - I'm not sure how much is in my H2B now, as I've locked myself out of online banking ) My only regret about opening a H2B is that I should've opened it earlier

Update: my declaration for August is a miserable £6.55 I know it's a good thing to be in the black instead of the red, but it looks very demotivating to me too and September is a tight month... Roll on October!!

I did have one little snag though. When setting it up i noticed that i could transfer from my old ISA's into this new one. I called them up to ask if i can transfer and still add my £1,200. I was told i could which i was very happy about as this meant i would have the higher interest for all my savings. So after the phone call i set up my new ISA, transferred in my others and added my initial £1,200. A few days later the money from my other ISA was back in my bank account. I called them back to find out why and it turns out the person who told me i could transfer told me wrong. They have now raised a complaint as i was miss-sold a product. Apparently this is very serious. Just waiting to hear back from them, they are looking into it.

Haven't had a chance to catch up on all the posts but spotted the one about your charity swim Westie. Swimming the channel in a pool is certainly a warmer way to do. All the very best with that.

I've just sent you two update forms - one for the missing payment from August - it wasn't quite £6 but there was a 6 in it. And my first for Sept for the last two weeks. I'm putting over so little just now that I don't want to increase my target. Anything I am able to add is just a bonus.

As they reinstated it it doesn't count as being paid into. Does that make sense?

P.S. We could even be hitting the £5,500 this month

Don't worry Westie. I transferred my existing ISAs into my H2B ISA after being told by my bank it would be OK. Turns out this is against the terms of the H2B so the money got returned to me. I called up and they raised a complaint for miss-selling me the ISA. They reinstated my old ISA as an apology (as well as giving me the £25). As they reinstated it it doesn't count as being paid into. Does that make sense?
