    Hi.

Really excited to say we are off on our first trip to Vegas in March. I can't wait. Had a couple of questions though if possible.

We arrive Thursday lunchtime so was planning on doing some exploring that afternoon and catching some of the fountain, light and TI shows.
Friday I hadn't worked out what to do yet but I have booked for us to do the Sundance sunset Grand Canyon and Las Vegas strip helicopter rider.
    Saturday- no plans as yet.
Sunday- return to U.K. at about 4:30.

We are staying at the Luxor.

    * Do all the restaurants offer a decent vegetarian choice of foods? Are there any particularly good/bad ones you know of?
    * I wanted to see Phantom of the Opera at the Venetian whilst there if possible, do you know if it has finished? 7 have contacted the ticket sight and they just reply saying they have no tickets at present.
    * Any recommendations for shows to see that particularly stand out.
    * we were planning on bedgeting $100 dollars a day each for casinos. Does that sound reasonable.
    * Are touristy things like the gondola ride in the Venetian worth doing?

Sorry for so many questions, very excited about it all.

bearing that in mind I would def wait till you get there and see if you feel like going to a show and visit the ticket booth if you do

Fountains are a good idea the first night but there is nothing outside TI anymore

I wouldnt do the canyon in the short time you have as there is so much to see and do in 3 days without leaving the strip.

Not sure about vegeterian food as the americans love steak and burgers

    Hi All,

Getting very close to our trip in December. Flying out with BA, have 4 days at the Excelsior and then cruising back on the QM2.

We pretty much have our itinerary sorted but I did have a few questions around food. Can anyone recommend any restaurants or places to eat that has stuff for vegetarians please? When I went last time I did PH, HRC etc but my parents don't like those. We are also planning a dinner cruise whilst there with entertainment cruises, has anyone has experience of this?

    Thanks Cher

Apologies all the forum seems intent on putting my NY post on the Vegas thread.

I am in Vegas in March hence earlier post about Phantom but NY in December. I have been trying to post on two different threads but MSE doesn't like that. Technology fall!

I seem to find a lot of conflicting information on Phantom so I think I will just leave it and see what is on when we are there. If we don't see a show that isn't the end of the world. The Grand Canyon trip was non-negotiable for us, it was the thing we wanted to do in Vegas more than anything else and so 3-4 hours doesn't seem too much out of the weekend for us. We know we are going for a weekend where we will be up early and out late every day so have no problems with packing as much in as possible whilst we are there. It won't be our last trip there either.

I didn't realise TI doesn't do a show anymore, that's a real shame. There was me thinking I'd get to see some pirate action. Ha ha.

I shall have to keep exploring for some restaurant menus that have a good veggie choice. I only ask as I don't want to buy vouchers for places that aren't going to cater for one of us.

    Thank you.

You can usually look at menus online. Wynn do a lot of veggie and vegan options in all their restaurants. They aren't cheap though.

There is no conflicting report on Phantom...as said,it finished its run in Vegas years ago.
Unfortunately, I echo what has already been said,3 days in Vegas is just not enough time.
Our first visit in March 2004,we went for 7 nights....it wasn't long enough...so we booked to go back in November the same year.
All trips since then have been a minimum of 10 nights.
Would have also agreed with others about not doing the Grand Canyon on such a short trip, but if it's something you really want to do,then you should obviously do it.We have been twice,in truth, once is enough.I think I prefer the Hoover dam tour...not as far out of Vegas as the Grand Canyon, and more interesting.
Also agree with tix4tonight ticket booths...just pick whatever you fancy off the screen.
The weather in March can vary a lot...you might be lucky and get jeans and t-shirt weather,a nice pleasant 70+ degrees...it might be freezing.
But whatever the weather through the daytime,it will be cold at night,so jackets will be needed.
Sorry can't help on the vegetarian food options...like most on here, and most Americans,we like meat, and more meat.

My first time a few years ago was solo on a convoluted stop over from UK to Canada. Anyway I arrived Sat evening and left first thing Tue morning for my next flight. Are you on a long connection somewhere on your itinerary or touring the region as arriving in Vegas direct from UK at lunchtime is unusual?

As stated it may take you a day or so to get over the journey so personally I wouldn't book and pay for anything on the Thu or Fri and play it as you feel upon arrival.

As for the Canyon trip, this will probably be the west rim which is nearer but not as spectacular as the South Rim. Even though the west rim isn't that far it will still probably take half a day from your trip by the time you prepare go and return. I did a bus trip to the South Rim on my first trip and that was a long and tiring trip, 6am to 9pm but for the 3 hours at the Canyon it was worthwhile but took a day out of my weekend.

As you will be there at weekend I would recommend an evening at Fremont Street, IMO a more relaxing feel than the strip, with free acts and cheap drinks. You can easily get a Duece bus from the strip to downtown.

I cannot comment on vegie options buts suspect that the buffet restaurants have a good selection for all tastes.

Instead of the TI show which closed a while ago, the Mirage volcano show may be an alternative option if they are scheduled whilst you are there. TI and Mirage are next to each other.

Anyway you have long enough to research and think about things and hopefully the pound will be more healthy then

Thanks Stevie11, we are flying at 10:00 and arrive in Vegas at 12:50 according to Virgin. I haven't got the exact times to hand but it's an AM flight.

This is the Canyon trip I am doing http://www.sundancehelicopters.com/grand-canyon/vip-deluxe/
I can't see it saying West Rim or not but assume it is based on the times involved. Some friends of ours did it and said it was amazing, for me the Grand Canyon is on my bucket list and is what I have chosen to do on this trip whilst we can afford it. If we had longer there is would be nice but unfortunately this trip is just a shorter one and so I have decided to prioritise to what we can do. I am pleased you enjoyed yours too and thought it worth the day out of your weekend.

Many thanks for the advice about Fremont street, I shall have a look into that. Pkus cheap drinks is always a bonus.
I have emailed a couple of the buffet places to check they cater for veggies, the last thing I want to do is purchase vouchers for one and then find there is nothing for me to eat. Better to be safe than sorry.

I shall put the Mirage volcano down on the to do list. How many fountains shows would people recommend seeing? I understand they are different each half an hour? Or is there a nice restaurant opposite them we could eat at?

Final question, for now, the room upgrade trick. Is it worth it at the Luxor? As in are there some nice rooms it's worthwhile trying to boost up to? We have just a standard room booked but I am willing to try the trick. Thanks.

So your flight gets in around 1pm looking at schedules. By the time you pick up your luggage and get a cab or transfer to the Luxor you could be there by 2.30 ready for check in, that is a good time for a rest or to get out on the strip or you may want to go round the pool.

For the 3 nights on strip you may pass by the Ballagio fountains a few times so will be able see different shows. The Mirage is about another 20 minutes walk. Distances may not look that far on the strip but when you are walking in crowds then over bridges and walkways and through hotels it sure eats up the time.

If you are into shopping there are numerous malls on and close to the strip i.e. the Forum mall within Ceasers Palace, Planet Hollywood Mall, the Fashion Show Mall and then the outlet Malls North and South. Some of the high end hotels have their own shops which I would tend to window shop only. Again if you are tight on time I find going to the malls eats into the time.

Re drinks, you will see many people openly drinking on the strip, there are cheap and expensive bars you take your pick or many just pick a can or two up from a shop or purchase the cocktails on the strip.

I have read about the $20 trick but never used it, I just politely ask if there are any complimentary upgrades available sometimes it works. Remember the dreaded resort fee on top of your hotel charge, this could be up to $35 a night

So much to do and see and take in so little time.

It was the big extravagance for us but it's a special trip and so I thought what the heck. Not very MSE I admit.

Thanks so much for the hints and tips, I have written them all down ready for my itinerary... I'm so organised about this it's untrue. Not too sure how much shopping we plan on doing, I tend to avoid shops like the plague but I am sure if I see something sparkly I will be tempted to have a browse.

    So excited already...

Forgot to say, I think my resort fees are already included in the cost of the trip.. I shall check. It's part of a group booking we are going and we're told the ETSA was the only thing not included. I best check.
