I think David Bowie had different coloured eyes.

Edit. Correction, no he didn't. He had a condition where one pupil was larger than the other, so it made that eye appear darker....... anisocoria....

    Good morning lovely Alphabettys
I hope you're all well and raring to go on this
    thoughtful, fun-filled and scrumptious Friday!

Contrary to expectations, the purpose of Shark Awareness Day is
not to stand on the beach and shout out warnings to terrified
swimmers and surfers, despite the hours of innocent fun that can
    provide.

It’s true that sharks are impressive hunters and predators, yet
the sad fact remains that these magnificent creatures are more
threatened by people than we are by sharks. The worldwide
demand for shark-fin soup, shark-tooth medallions, and a false
sense of security on beaches everywhere, all combine to leave
sharks persecuted and endangered, with millions of them being
    killed each year.

Like top predators in any ecosystem, sharks play an essential role
in keeping the seas healthy and productive. Whilst no-one is
suggesting we go out and hug a Great White on Shark Awareness
Day, it’s the least we can do to respect these wonderful creatures
    and let them be.

    https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/shark-awareness-day/

The Shark Trust is currently the only UK registered charity working
to advance the worldwide conservation of sharks.

When the Shark Trust started its activity in 1997 there was little to
no management for sharks, skates and rays and an almost equal
lack of public appreciation for sharks and their importance within
    the wider marine ecosystem.

As apex predators, sharks (just like wolves and lions on land) fulfil
a key role in maintaining the balance of the ocean by keeping
other populations in check. However their life history strategy of
slow growth, late maturity and few offspring makes them
extremely vulnerable to exploitation. Human impacts are
threatening our oceans and many shark species are suffering a
documented decline. Overfishing and excessive bycatch, shark
finning and habitat destruction are all seriously impacting on global
    shark populations.

There are now 110 species of chondrichthyan fish listed in a threat
category on the IUCN's Red List, with a further 95 species listed as
    Near Threatened.....

    Our mission

Grow Wild is the UK’s biggest-ever wild flower campaign, bringing
people together to transform local spaces with native, pollinator-
    friendly wild flowers and plants.

Supported by the Big Lottery Fund, Grow Wild is the national
outreach initiative of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Through us
    millions of people are doing something positive where they live;
connecting with wild flowers, plants and places around them,
taking notice of nature, getting active, learning new things and
    sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm.

We believe that this simple act of creativity can turn spaces into
beautiful, inspiring and colourful wildlife havens; encouraging
people to care for and delight in the nature around them.

Kew’s Grow Wild initiative has eight distinct activity areas delivered
online and on-the-ground across the UK. Find out more about
    them here.

    Why UK native wild flowers?

In the UK we’re lucky to have some amazing wild flowers, but
they're in danger: we have lost 97% of wild flower meadows since
    the 1930s.

This not only means less colour in our lives but it's impacting on
populations of butterflies, bees, pollinating bugs and birds. We
believe that the simple act of sowing UK native wild flowers can
make a difference - and that it can bring neighbourhoods together,
connect people to nature and boost our wellbeing.
