    Good morning lovely Alphabettys

I hope you're all well and raring to go on this classic,
    scary and scrumdiddlyumptious Tuesday!

    National Sewing Machine Day

June 13th is National Sewing Machine Day. Mark the invention of
this important piece of machinery by getting creative.

    International Axe Throwing Day

International Axe Throwing Day is launching on June 13.

This day is dedicated to those around the globe who share our
passion for axe throwing. The members of the World Axe Throwing
League have this goal in mind—to raise awareness and unify the
sport of urban axe throwing. It’s not surprising that axe throwing
is trending and growing in popularity internationally. This sport is
seriously fun and offbeat—it’s an inclusive activity everyone can
    enjoy, even children.

With that said, we’re happy to announce that axe throwing
facilities are offering free axe throwing to celebrate International
    Axe Throwing Day.

The World Axe Throwing League encourages our members to
follow suit and share this experience with their community for
free! It’s a priceless (pun, intended) opportunity to let everyone
experience the adrenaline rush of chucking steel in a safe
    environment.

    https://worldaxethrowingleague.com/international-axe-throwing-day/

    WHAT IS URBAN AXE THROWING?

We think it’s the most satisfying and social day or night out you’ll
ever have. And we’ve tried a few.

You’ll be slinging axes side by side against your friends or
colleagues, hitting bullseyes and cheering on your mates. All
backed up with great music and atmosphere and a chance to
    socialise between throws.

Our experienced throwing coaches will get you throwing like a pro
in no time. Then once you’ve got the hang of it we’ll take you and
your group through a tournament until the king or queen of axes is
    crowned.

    Good morning lovely Alphabettys

I hope you're all well on this thoughtful and
    scrumptious Wednesday!

What can you do? Give blood. Give now. Give often

Every year, on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World
Blood Donor Day (WBDD). The event serves to raise awareness of
the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood
donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

Blood is an important resource, both for planned treatments and
urgent interventions. It can help patients suffering from life-
threatening conditions live longer and with a higher quality of life,
and supports complex medical and surgical procedures. Blood is
also vital for treating the wounded during emergencies of all kinds
(natural disasters, accidents, armed conflicts, etc.) and has an
essential, life-saving role in maternal and perinatal care.

A blood service that gives patients access to safe blood and blood
products in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective
health system. Ensuring safe and sufficient blood supplies requires
the development of a nationally coordinated blood transfusion
service based on voluntary non-remunerated blood donations.
However, in many countries, blood services face the challenge of
making sufficient blood available, while also ensuring its quality
    and safety.......

Slogan: What can you do? Give blood. Give now. Give often

This year’s campaign will focus on blood donation in emergencies.
In crisis or emergency situation, the natural human response is
“What can I do? How can I help?”. Therefore, the slogan for the
2017 campaign is: What can you do?, with the secondary
message: Give blood. Give now. Give often.

The campaign underlines the role every single person can play in
helping others in emergency situations, by giving the valuable gift
of blood. It also focuses on the fact that it is important to give
blood regularly, so that the blood stock is sufficient before an
    emergency arises......

Legend has it that on June 14th (around 260 BC) Greek
mathematician, scientist and scholar, Archimedes, discovered
while taking a bath that an object’s volume could be accurately
measured by being submerged in water!

Unable to contain his excitement over this discovery, Archimedes
lept out of the bathtub and yelling “Eureka, Eureka!” as he ran
through the streets of Syracuse, Greece.

Since the exact date of Archimedes’ birth was unknown, the day
chosen to commemorate is the day that is believed he leapt out of
    the bath tub….June 14th.

How was this date determined? The ancient Greek legend says that
is was exactly 1 week before the beginning of summer…the
calendar in those days was astronomical and seasons were
determined due to the 23.5 degree tilt of the Earth’s rotational axis
in relation to its orbit around the sun. Summer begun (then and
today) on June 21st so a week before is June 14th and this was the
    date set.

We would like to recognize this day because we believe that bath
time is the IDEAL time for learning and discovery for children.

Bath toys can teach children the basic properties of physics such
as empty/full, float/sink, heavy/light, and cause and effect all
while having FUN in the tub!
