    Hmm. Perhaps we've been had!

Doubtless, we’ve all received those wonderfully knitted sweaters
from our grandparents as we were growing up, but things have
    changed in the past decades.

Knitting is no longer the province of the elderly but has been taken
up by all ages as a way to create something lovely, to promote
social change, and to spend some time peacefully meditating as
they knit one, purl two their way to higher consciousness.

Alright, that may be a bit hokey, but it is a relaxing practice often
best enjoyed with a bottle of wine.

History of Worldwide Knit in Public Day

The world has knitter Danielle Landes to thank for World Wide Knit
in Public Day (W.W.K.I.P.D) – and to say that the world’s knitters
have turned out in their droves to support her quest to show that
knitting is not just for grannies is something of an understatement ....

NINTH year on Saturday 10 June 2017!!

World Gin Day is a global celebration of all things gin, on the
second Saturday in June organised by Gin Monkey!

The idea is simple: get people together all around the world with a
legitimate excuse (not that the Gin Monkey needs one!) to drink
some gin, whether it’s in a cocktail, G&T or neat (yes, you can
drink gin neat, and when you’re doing a gin tasting it’s the easiest
way to distinguish between different brands!).

    How to get involved

If you’re a gin lover make sure you’re following us on Facebook,
Twitter, and Instagram to keep up to date with the latest news and
events! Use and follow the #WorldGinDay hashtag across social to

Diabetes Week kicks off on 11 June, and this year the theme is:
    Know Diabetes. Fight Diabetes.

While a lot of people have a good understanding of diabetes and
how to manage it, many others aren’t getting the right help and
support to look after their diabetes.

Today, 65 people will die early from the condition and hundreds
more will face life-changing complications that could have been
avoided or delayed if they'd had the right knowledge and support
to manage their diabetes. Some of you have that, and are already
doing everything you can to manage your diabetes well. But this
isn't true for everyone and it's our job to change that. Our vision is
a world where diabetes can do no harm. Together, we can make
    that a reality.

Bike Week is an annual opportunity to promote cycling, and show
how cycling can easily be part of everyday life by encouraging
‘everyday cycling for everyone’. Demonstrating the social, health
and environmental benefits of cycling, the week aims to get people
to give cycling a go all over the UK, whether this be for fun, as a
means of getting around to work or school, the local shops or just
to visit friends. The 2017 event will take place 10-18th June but
events still take place through until September and beyond!

This year’s Bike Week has a special focus and will encourage
people to use their bikes to cycle to work. Many people will use
the events to ride and take part in ‘buddy’ rides with colleagues,
scope out the easiest route to their place of work or take part in
    work place challenges.

Breathe Easy Week is our annual awareness event, focusing on
    lung health.

This year, Breathe Easy Week takes place on 12-16 June 2017 and
we're going to be talking all about air pollution and clean air.

Our support groups will be holding events across the country - at
supermarkets, shopping centres and in their local communities.

Find your nearest group to find out what they're doing >>>>

Each year, Breathe Easy Week raises awareness of lung conditions
and helps to fund our life-changing research and our important
support and campaigning work. If you are a BE group and will be
having an event, let your Group Support Officer know and sign up
    for a resource pack.

It is shocking that poor air quality has contributed up to 40,000
early deaths a year across the UK. It’s an invisible danger that hits
hardest people with a lung condition, children and the elderly.

If you’re not able to make it to our events this time, you can keep
an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages for the highlights of
    Breathe Easy Week.

    National Glaucoma Awareness Week

    12-18 June 2017

    Pressure checked?

What have you checked in the last two years? #GetEyeWise

How often do you check the pressure in your car tyres, your boiler,
your blood pressure? What about eye pressure though? Did you
know that it is pressure which keeps the eye inflated, and if it is
too high it can lead to irreversible damage to the optic nerve
leading to loss of vision. It is estimated that there are 64 million
people with glaucoma worldwide, and 600,000 in the UK, with half
    undetected.

“People have such a limited knowledge about the health of their
eyes. All too often we hear that people do not have an eye health
check until they realise that something is wrong with their vision.
This is too late for glaucoma as a significant amount of vision will
be lost, and it can never be recovered” comments Karen Osborn,
Chief Executive of the International Glaucoma Association.

This year’s campaign is to educate people about the importance of
eye pressure as part of a regular eye health check, as raised
pressure can indicate glaucoma. If detected early, glaucoma can
be managed and useful sight can usually be maintained throughout
    life.....

Men's Health Week 2017 runs from 12-18 June.

This year it's all about belly fat. Why? Because it's the type of fat
that's bad for your health and men are more likely to have it.

Belly fat is a problem because it lurks not just beneath the surface
but also gets down deep and surrounds your vital organs.

Regardless of your overall weight, a large amount of belly fat
    increases your risk of:

    Cardiovascular disease
Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes
    Colorectal cancer
    Sleep apnea
    Premature death from any cause
    High blood pressure

So, men need to get those tape measures out. If you have a waist
measurement over 37 inches (94cm), you are at increased risk of
diabetes, heart disease, cancer, stroke and erection problems. If
    it's over 40 inches (102cm), you're at a considerably increased
risk of all these. The measurement is not the same as your trouser
size. Measure your stomach at the belly button.

MOVE MORE, EAT WELL, WATCH THE BOOZE.

Men's Health Week will be a fat lot of good without your
participation. It's still not too late to tell us your belly good suggestions.....

Once again for the tenth year running the International Federation
of Aromatherapists are coordinating Aromatherapy Awareness
    Week from 12th - 16th June 2017.

The theme to mark this week is Aromatherapy & Mental Health.

This is prompted by the worrying statistics that one adult in six
has had a common mental disorder (CMD): about one woman in
five and one man in eight.

Since 2000, overall rates of CMD in England has steadily increased
in women and remained largely stable in men.

Mental health effects every age group and UK based statistics
show that 10% of children and young people have a mental health
problem; mental health is also the leading cause of sickness
    absence in the workplace.....
