Reclaiming money back from various payday loan companies 17th Jul 15 at 9:32 PM
Hi all just wanted to share some good news regarding payday loan companies.....
From early 2011 until mid 2014 I too was caught in the payday loan trap, all my own fault may I add, I borrow the money and in the end paid every penny back, would estimate 15000 over the years maybe 20.
Early this year I saw all the news regarding payday loan companies and irresponsible lending, unfair interest etc etc etc, so I decided to have ago and try and get a few quid back myself.
So far I have been in contact with 5 of the companies I was lending multiple loans from at the same time with many roll overs too, I have received 4 apologies and offers totalling over 5000 and the other complaint is now with the ombudsman.
I never expected these amounts back but if you too were in the same situation, get all your facts in order and get complaining, from the initial email sent I had the money back within 8 weeks.

Ive just realised one of mine is Payday uk!! Ive also emailed wonga, although i did get a redress thing a year or so ago which wiped my debt.

Ive got 7 on the go now.... what the hell was i thinking back then with all these loans. So happy im not going through that cycle any more!

    Hi James.

I'm not sure about them refusing to provide you with the statements but Dollar Financial seem to be the worst for not responding. I have complaints with FOS regarding Payday UK and Payday Express after neither of them replied after 8 weeks. If you have online banking then you can check all your previous dealings with them to get an idea of the interest and charges you paid them.

Regarding Wonga - absolutely yes you can! See my post on page 99, I had my last loan written off for about £200-300 I think it was. They won't include this in their calculation of any potential refund as you most likely repaid less than you borrowed but I had a good result from them.

    Good luck!

I hope Money Shop might at least wipe my account , i worked out i owe about £200 but again with charges andd interest they have it at £550.
CFO reduced my balance by half for malicious communications and repaying each month but hoping the new redress from them might mean it gets written off.
Next to deal with is the biggest PDL joke i've encountered yet, Opos/Kapama.£100 loan with £118 interest, £100 collection charges,£75 default charges and £270 in daily attempt charges.Insane.
One i'd love to challenge is Micro Credit but they went under before i could claim, they took about £2k for a £300 loan via CPA under the name London Treasury Services, horrendous mess to get in but now on the path to redemption with help from here.

I have a complaint ongoing with them too. It has recently been referred to the FOS as they didn't reply after 8 weeks - not surprising as they are in liquidation as you say. The FOS will get in touch with whoever they can to try and deal with it.

It's worth a go even if nothing comes of it. Costs nothing to send an email or two.

Great to hear of all these payday loans having to pay out. Totally disproportionate charges and unscrupulous lending practices. Nice to see lots who got sucked into the payday loan trap are now being reimbursed.

Right received a final decision from Mr Lender. I only had 2 loans with them, the first i took out and rolled over 3 times before paying back in full. The second i didnt pay back as i was in the process of setting up a DMP with Step Change.

Basically they have said that they believe they did all the correct checks and that i had an "Average score compared to the other scores they were seeing at the time".

They have as a goodwill gesture knocked £135 off my debt, which will actually half the remaining balance. Do you think this is fair or shall i reject ?

There would have been plenty of missed payments on credit file before this along with Wonga loans and a high rate intrest loan from Everyday loans, so the signs were there. I dont know whether to just accept this one as they have wiped all the interest from the loan.

Update from me, was in the process of contacting a few that I haven't heard back from yet and contacted Cashconvertors - strangely they replied straightaway and sent me a letter that they had emailed too me on the 27th of August (allegedly)! Anyway they upheld my complaint and said that if they did not hear from me within 10 days of the letter they would close the complaint. So I have now sent them my bank details and asking them when I am getting the refund of £1200 none the less................................ I don't believe that they sent the email initially at all - they were waiting to see if I would forget about it. Anyway gives me hope for taking Satsuma to the FOS.

Ive accepted Mr Lenders offer of a reduced balance as this will halve my balance owed and i will only be paying back what i lent at the time. I think this is very fair and ive had a final decision in less than 48 hours which is impressive considering some of the stories ive read about trying to claim money back from PDL companys!!

Just hope the rest are like this.... very much doubt it though lol Payday UK already started playing hardball!

Well done on the Wonga payout, i am going to have a shot in the dark at Micro credit (Speed Credit was the company i used) .Should i do a routine initial complaint aimed at them even knowing they won't respond? I assume i still have to go through the 8 week dance and can't go straight to the FOS despite liquidation.

Pretty much, yes. I have one ongoing with Toothfairy Finance also who are in the same boat as Microcredit. But with that one I sent it straight to the FOS who then contact the business/liquidators/whoever is responsible. But the FOS still has to wait the 8 weeks for them to respond too before they look into it. I complained directly to Microcredit and had nothing after 8 weeks so then referred it to the FOS. So the sooner you put the email in the sooner you are to getting a potential answer.

    Hi all
Long time no speak! Seems Sunny are playing dirty. I had an email and a letter from Motormile yesterday reminding me I owed £501 and asking when I was going to pay!! I rang them and said the twelfth of never as Sunny had written the loan off!! It seems Sunny haven't bothered telling them despite the fact they have wiped the loan from my credit file. I also told them that it's somewhere in the Ombudsmans complaint queue so as far as I'm concerned if they've got a problem they should take it up with Sunny. I sent them the email proving that Sunny had written it off, hopefully I'll hear no more.
Email from the adjudicator for Express- seems they haven't replied (surprise surprise) so it's in the queue now for an Ombudsman.
What am I letting myself into Proud sponsor of a prop for the 16/17 season- welcome Mr W
Thrilled and proud to have met my hero 13 and 15/05- thanks Fran!

You only pay tax on the additional 8% interest, not the initial refund amount. This will be taken at source.
