Time to step up to the plate.. 12th Feb 15 at 11:24 PM
    Hi all

This is my first post with this username.. I have RL friends who use MSE and I'm embarrassed for them to know how much debt we have. I've been following several DFDs for a while and have found them so inspiring that I thought having one of my own would keep me to the straight and narrow. Not counting the mortgage, I owe a shade over £26000 but I had my LBM just before Christmas and that's already an improvement. I've done a first draft of an SOA and I'll post that in a bit. I'm lucky that I earn a good wage, and have a business too, which generates a variable amount every month, so I tend not to rely on that income.

Today's money saving has included switching my gas and electricity for both our properties, (our house and an annex) which should save £1000 a year!! I've also applied for (& been accepted!) for a 0% card. I'm going to wait until I see what the credit limit is before I decide which card to pay off. I'd like to pay the most expensive one off, which is the sensible choice, but it might be enough to clear my lowest card altogether so we'll see.

I'd appreciate some company.. But for now I'm off to bed. More tomorrow! (And it's payday! )

Had a bit of a clear out this evening.. 4 bin bags of DD's clothes, my clothes, and old bed linen are currently sitting in my car waiting to go to the charity shop. It feels good! DH doesn't know.. He's a hoarder so I have to bide my time
I've also made a small OP to the windows CC. I know it's 0% but I want to see how much I can clear before the rate goes up. Looking forward to the end of the month, when we get the holiday let money.
It's been a totally manic day at work. My desk is in a big open plan office, which makes it really hard to do anything confidential, or sensitive, like appraisals. I can work from home though, so I do wherever possible. Today I needed to be in the office, and it was pretty much impossible to get anything done. So I shut myself away in one of the meeting rooms, much better!

Parkrun done this morning, although I couldn't find my barcode so it won't count. Boo..
    Plans for today include:
    - ironing
    - tidying guest room of doom
    - returns back to n3xt

I've weighed myself. It's not good. Must must must lose some weight, it's bound to help with my running. I'm doing so much more exercise these days, and still the weight keeps going up. And yes, I know muscle weighs more than fat but this is beyond that. So depressing.

Thanks Abba.. Back on the healthy eating and tracking it all. Definitely helps.

Parkrun done this morning and a new PB! Chuffed with that, although it's still very slow in the great scheme of things. Then 5 miles to do tomorrow, and then very gentle stuff next week so that I'm ready for Bristol a week on Sunday

MSE-wise, it's pretty similar! Slow but in the right direction!! Sig has been updated. It's not going down as quickly as I'd like but we are still doing things, and it's been that expensive back to school time of year. DD is now in a size 6 shoe, so into ladies shoes; school shoes were £60! Not too much else to report; long list of chores to do today so I'd better crack on..

Well. Bristol half marathon done! and in a time I'm pleased with for a first go.. I'm going to work on pace now over winter, and see what happens. So proud of myself! 6 months ago I hadn't done a 10k, never mind a half, and I'm so chuffed! Just shows what you can do when you set a goal, break down the targets and go for it.. A bit like getting debt free really!

OPs are picking up this month, I've been very careful. Holiday let business is going well, although we will need to replace the suite this winter. Time for some research I think. Does £co do cashback in DFS?!

Morning everyone! Parkrun done and another PB! DH and DD came too this week, first time for both of them, and they did brilliantly.

October already, and I've just done some sums. Sig updated but it's not as good as I'd hoped. I'm being charged interest on the account now, so time to do a switch if I can. It has been a spendy September after all; I've had someone in to help undo a summer of neglect in the garden, and I've had to set aside some money to have a log burner installed so OPs have taken more of a hit than I'd planned. But the overall debt still reduced by just under £500 this month. So not too bad after all.

Plans for the rest of the day include chores, and then meeting the girls for dinner/drinks tonight. Family day tomorrow!

Ugh. What a week. DH came home on Wednesday to say that he's been given the choice of a settlement agreement or performance management for a month. Given that his new boss has previous for getting rid of staff in this way I guess we're considering the settlement agreement. I knew he'd been marked down on his last appraisal, but there have been no performance meetings in the last 3 months, so he thought it had gone quiet. He works away Mon-Fri, and it's been 8 years since we have lived together full time. He's looking on the bright side, saying that it could be a good thing, he's being made to job hunt locally etc etc and all I can think of is how on earth am I going to live with him full time? Dad is visiting at the moment too, and keeps trying to be positive, saying that we're all healthy, and have a lovely DD, and a lovely house, it's a lot to be grateful for. And I'm thinking how on earth am I going to do this? I've had a rotten cold since Thursday, so I'm ill and tired, which I know doesn't help. But I can't pretend to be grateful that he's got into this mess. I'm furious with him that he hasn't resolved this work situation earlier so that it didn't come to this. And I can't tell him any of that because I'm supposed to be a supportive wife

I am sorry to vent. I know it'll probably sort itself out. But in the meantime I'm battening down the hatches, minimums to everything from now on, until I know he's found another job. Otherwise things are going to get very tight.

    Oh Abba, thank you xx

I'm calmer today, spoke to DH last night about how I feel. He works in IT, so once they have decided you pretty much have to go straight away, so he's on gardening leave, until he signs the settlement agreement. I'm not sure of the details, but it sounds like his new boss doesn't like the way he's been doing things (I don't know anything about IT, so I'm not sure of whether she's got grounds or not). His appraisal was graded average last time, but when it got back from the review process was marked down - hence his bonus being less than expected. At that point (at the end of May) he should have had some kind of performance plan put in place, but it wasn't, and then last week he was sent to HR and told that he's got the choice of a months' performance management, or take the settlement.

I spoke to him last night, said that I was cross and disappointed that he hadn't been more proactive back in May/June, and that I was stressed about how we are going to cope. I also told him how I felt about job hunting.. He's said he'll job hunt for years and hasn't. He says this whole thing with be A Good Thing because it's forcing him to job hunt. We'll see, I guess.

Well, some news. DH has a telephone interview on Monday, and 2 other job applications in. The settlement agreement is in the hands of the solicitor now, who seems to think there's a case for unfair dismissal. We don't want to go down that route I think, but it's still some consolation to know.
In MSE news.. Payday from my job has happened, just the minimums going out this month, until we get a clearer idea of what's happening. Anything else is going to the emergency fund. I've had a place on a Women in business networking course approved, so that's next month. Two days with the MD. Exciting times! Work is at a sort of crossroads for me at the moment, and I want to step up, so this is a good opportunity.

6 weeks since my last post!!

Not too much has changed.. DH is still job hunting. I've made OPs this month, probably shouldn't have really, but done now. My total owed is now.. Drumroll please.. Less than 10K!!! So pleased

We've finally managed to agree with OH's family that we're only buying for the children for Christmas, thank goodness. It's been a long time coming. And the present shopping is mostly done. All within budget and saved for. I'm not sure what we're going to do if he doesn't get a job soon; his money should last 6 months or so but I can't afford to run the house just on my salary, so if he doesn't get anything by then we'll have to sell ..

For now though, I'm concentrating on the win that is getting my personal debt below £10k. Go me!! x

Hi Brizzle!! Thanks so much for popping by. And thank you Abba as always

Busy at work again today, I'm looking after the same team I looked after in the summer as their manager has now left the business.. So two hats, two full time jobs.. I'm not going to apply for that job, it wouldn't be a promotion and it's not really what I want to do, but I'll do it temporarily until they recruit. If they don't recruit by Jan I'll be having firm words with the line manager about an uplift in my salary.

I did a wonderful career development course last week; lots of really obvious stuff really, but good to have the opportunity to dedicate the time to thinking about it. So I'm putting those things into practise; easy wins like speaking up in meetings (not that I have trouble doing that!), revamping my LinkedIn, and my cv. We'll start on the harder stuff next week
