Weight Loss the Old Style Way! Part 9. Please read posts 1 and 2 before posting. 30th Dec 14 at 4:13 PM
Hello, everyone I've been asked, ever so nicely, so shiny new thread for you all

    Quote:

As some of you know there's been some discussion lately on how to accommodate weight loss diets on the board. It was decided that the daily isn't the place for campaigns of any sort and that there was a very good weight loss thread on the I wanna board which would offer excellent support to anyone wishing to join.

The board guides have talked about this and we'd like to accommodate a weight loss campaign the OLD STYLE way here. However, in order for it to fit with the board, it should be about scratch cooking and healthy eating, NOT about where to get low calorie/fat ready meals cheaply or fad diets.

So, here it is. The Lose Weight the Old Style Way thread. This thread is for support in losing weight but in order to keep it true to the board - which is about money saving the old style way, there are going to be some posting guidelines.

    Important. Please read:

The thread should be about healthy, Old Style eating. That means recipes and meal plans, support and encouragement and healthy eating. What shouldn't be accomodated here is if the thread goes off topic and covers ready meals, fad diets and weight loss clubs. There is a good thread that covers all that on the 'I wanna' board. So if the thread becomes an extention of that, we will have to close it and ask people to join in there instead.

Enjoy, and good luck (nb - we run 4 challenges a year, generally either 12 or 13 weeks, with a fortnight off at the end of December )

pop up pirate im sure im missing something but i dont find the ingreds in that sauce particularly offensive which would concern you ?

-Toasted sesame oil (is inflammatory and high in oxidised omega-6 fatty acids(bad fats))

-Dark Soy sauce (Defatted soya bean flakes) (soy is very harmful to humans)

If one was to consume one of these sauces once a month, in isolation (ie no other processed foods) then the amounts are so small the body could cope with them and adverse affects won't be a problem.
However, the problems occur because these ingredients are in everything processed and are being consumed in mass quantities which leads to mass chronic illness.

I avoid all processed foods now. I didn't eat many before, but I would have a few things such as tomato sauce/brown sauce, that kind of thing.
(Soy is in everything, even a lot of chocolate, so I sourced chocolate without it in.)

A little box of spices, some raw ingredients such as ginger, garlic, chilli, cilantro and limes gives me a whole host of flavours which are completely free of any commercialised 'food additives'.
If a little sweetness is needed, blend a couple of dates with some water or use coconut sugar.

Tis the season to be unwell! ! Sorry to hear that you're not well knitwitch and mallygirl, hope you feel better soon.
In relation to illness, I'm finally, finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. First of all it was thought that this was a virus, then pneumonia / pleurisy and now I'm being checked out for tb. I had a chest xray today so waiting to see how that goes.
Meanwhile, the main thing that I've discovered regarding weight loss is ( and I've always known this) is that exercise is an important part of it. After nearly 6 weeks of only moving between the kettle and the sofa, and I've not been eating the best things, the weight I've lost has come back. Mind you, everything tasted so vile so I was just grateful to find stuff that I could eat . Unfortunately that was cheese straws, chocolate and dark chocolate digestives, not necessarily the best thing! Why couldn't I have wanted to eat apples? Lol.
I'm usually very active, I walk everywhere normally and I am very active at work and at home, but I've put on weight as I've had no exercise, not even done any housework. My daughter had to take me to the doctors as I couldn't walk there as I was so ill. I'm feeling more like my old self now, been out for a walk to the hospital then walked to work and back home , although I had to have a sit down when I got back home.
I'll be posting my weigh in on Sunday but I've put on all that I've lost on this part of the challenge plus a bit more. No surprise there! However when I get back to normal I'll start again.
    Happy Saturday everyone x

Hi, I've not posted for a couple of weeks but I had a couple of STS's anyway, this week I was pleased to see a small loss of 0.5lb. Went out to a quiz night last night, and ate and drank all the wrong things (including a whole bottle of wine), but hopefully back on it today.

Very good on the flight and car journey - I had my snacks prepped.

Arrived mid afternoon and we sat outside in the sun and I had a HUGE salad with Chicken, Ham and Egg. Olive oil dressing. Yum.

The plan is a rotisserie chicken and more salad for dinner. Maybe I will be able to come home weighing the same if this keeps up? No skiing or gym today, but plenty of walking.

As expected it's a gain for me, 4 lbs heavier. No surprise there, no exercise plus a lot of biscuits generally works that way! However since I started on my 'not on a diet diet ' I'm still over a stone lighter than before I started. I'm getting back to normal now so back on it this week.
When is the next challenge starting please knitwitch?

Hello everyone, I've managed to lose 1lb this week. I've been doing fine without coffee but I bought some hot choc, so I seem to have replaced the calories entirely! When the tub is finished I shall wean myself onto fruit tea to have in the evenings. I did save calories on my tea yesterday when I made a quiche that was so badly cooked it was a health risk, so I had to have toast instead!

Hope everyone has a lovely rest-of-weekend

Hi everyone! Hope you're all well and to those experiencing difficulties at the moment, get well soon.

Pleased to report a 2lb loss this week.

I'm trying to get back into an exercise regime after an injury last year meant a lot of time out for recovery and subsequent laziness. This week has consisted of around 40 km on a stationary bike, a 7 mile run and hopefully a stroll later today. I've also managed to steer clear of Mr Kipling products in the supermarket. Sticking to digestives (with hot drinks) for now, which makes it's easier to avoid overindulging as they don't taste as nice.

I was pretty good at the weekend but DH wanted a kebab last night. We hadn't had one for a while and we do share 2 between 3 and there is a takeaway box full of meat still in the fridge so it hopefully won't impact tomorrow's WI too much.

The weather was lovely on Saturday so I managed to spend a couple of hours in the garden - it needs a lot more effort but it was a start.

I have an appointment at the opticians on Friday for the full barrage of tests to see whether my sight problems definitely are due to a cataract. It will be good to know as then I can plan.

B: low carb granola, berries, skim
L: there is some roasted bns and some beetroot in the fridge so I will do something with them
D: chicken carcass from yesterday's lunch is in the SC turning into stock so we will probably have chicken risotto.

50 min brisk dog walk. Knee is turning nicely yellow now but doesn't hurt unless I forget and kneel down.

I've lost another 1lb at this weeks weigh in. Was hoping it would be more as I've done a lot of exercise over the last week and done well with eating. Today may reverse things though as I'm full of cold with blocked sinuses and generally feeling sorry for myself. Good job i don't work on Mondays so i can have a slobby day

    Great weight losses people.

MallyGirl sounds like you've done the portion control. Indulgence is allowed. I seriously hope

I've been very careful all day - tonight is Raclette night. Or the first heart attack on a plate night. I am going to let myself enjoy it and not worry too much. I ran down the hill to find the gym this morning. It's small but lots of free weights and a bench so I took out a six session including sauna pass.

Did an upper body session. Didn't have time to run back as I had a ski lesson. Great - but sooo hot.

I think I've burned enough calories - and tonight I'm going to allow myself to eat into them on MFP.
