our forever patch challenge 24th Sep 13 at 3:58 PM
well, this week sees the new start to my mortgage free plans. After 18 months clearing debts, then paying for our wedding, which took most of our hard earned savings, we are at the beginning again.

Due to restructure at work, OH is on a reduced monthly pay, so the savings are even more of a challenge!
Our plan is over the next two-three years, build up savings , and make over payments, untill we have enough saved to clear the outstanding balance owed on our mortgage, then sell this house, and use the sale proceeds as deposit on our "forever home", we really want somewhere with an acre or so of land, to allow me to have my own horse again, and OH to have garage/workshop he has always wanted.

we both get paid this week, i will open new savings online, and let the challenge to get our new home begin!, we get married on Friday, this will be the start of our married life adventure too, !!

off work today sick with horrid flu type lurgy, feeling poo

On the bright side, all bills accounted for, saving stransferred etc, and budget for March sorted
March will hopefully see stockfencing down side of our land completed, along with workshop door/wall work, and new door for workshop

Its going to be an expensive month, but all he items have already been saved for, and now we are starting to save for next lot of expences, we are following a 2 year savings plan for next lot of work..

We started clearing the undergrowth at the weekend with our new strimmer, already a small area has appeared , unfortunately the undergrowth was hiding the remains of stone/slates etc from an old demolished outbuilding, so we now need to plan what to do with a mountain of old stone

Day 3 of lurgy, managed to sleep last night, and feel a tad better today, not achy just snotty and really fed up

Mortgage payment £1208.83 gone out, interest for February = £397.56, daily thats £14.19
    new mortgage balance =£241,288.73

of course i couldnt leave it at that untidy balance, so £88.73 overpayment just made, so new tidy balance = £241,200.00

on a plus note, won bonus ball last night, so £40 from that to come, wonder what i can use it for??

Haha, I'm exactly the same with the mortgage balance. I've just overpaid today because I'd worked out what the balance was going to be tomorrow and I wanted it to be a nice tidy number instead

Hope you continue to get better. I've had a headache for a few days, that I assumed was a head cold, but now I'm wondering if it's the 4 bunches of daffodils I have in the front room. I got a rotten headache the last time I had lilies in the house

Well done on the £40 win

thanks Poppy, hope your headache has cleared, i feel bit better today, so be back to full speed next week hopefully

Mortgage has updated, now showing tidy balance

Today im taking advantage of enforced hometime to organise our plans for next round of work on the house/land. Im looking into revamping our kitchen by painting the units, changing handles, new worktops and flooring.
A new kitchen would cost a fortune, and id rather have a go at doing it this way, and hopefully keep the costs of the whole project to less than £1000.

Another idea i really want to put into practice is getting household cleaning/ foodshop etc done in the week, to free up the weekends for land clearing and other outdoor related work.

From monday, im challenging myself to to do this, the days are getting longer, i want to spend the maximum time outdoors, after all, thats what we got this house and land for

i may even make an early start on weekend cleaning today if my energy levels are up to it. im not a good patient, i hate lounging around even when im ill, this flu has really knocked the stuffing out of me this week though

I managed to get housework done friday last week, which freed me up to get stuck into overgrown blackberry bush clearing, and various other weeds/ wild undergrowth clearing done, though we still have lots more land to tidy and clear

I also managed to uncover and clear a set of stone steps whch hadnt seen the light of day for a few yers to say the least, hubby and son chopped down and chainsawed into logs two massive trees which were blocking light into the kitchen.. now we can start to see a field emergeing out of the jungle slow but sure , also free fuel in a year or so when its seasoned, so all in all a productive weekend

Last week saw our stockfencing completed, this week the stonemason has started on sorting out the much needed workshop wall and doorway repairs, friday im booking door company to measure and order our new workshop door, its all happenning!

Ive come into a little extra cash this month from a small inheritance, which ive shared with my two children and hubby, so tommorow i will be making another overpayment, it will pay for the workshop repair and door too, so we dont have to use every penny we have saved, i must admit this came in really handy

a massive £500 overpayment made today from my small but appreciated inheritence

Ive worked out we will be into the £230's next month after standard payment on 1st April, and we are still making our £150 overpayment on pay day this month, so a really good month for overpayments this month, wish we could afford to do the same every month!

The workshop stonework repair coming along, should be done mid next week, so i will arrange for quote for the door (money already in savings for most/all of this), and next job arrange quote for the workshop roof replacing (to save up some of this yet), then that is the workshop work completed

Thank you ETE, its such a good feeling to see the balance come down after making such a big overpayment, wish we could afford to do it more often

Ive arranged a roofer to come and quote for the new workshop roof sunday morning, fingers crossed for a reasonable price

once the workshop is fully completed we will be back to saving, we now have all the tools we need to clear the land, so while we save we have plenty of work getting the land into shape, and all the fencing and gates etc sorted to allow us to get our chickens, and my new horse in summer 2018

worked out budget for April tonight, and made this months £150 overpayment, so new balance £240,550

We need to get stuck into saving for w.shop roof, so frugal month or two ahead, i may need to borrow from my horse savings for the roof, and pay it back in monthly, after all im not buying the horse until summer 2018, so a new challenge ahead methinks

its been a wet and windy weekend here, hubby and i spent 2-3 soggy hours on sunday tidying up all the cuttings/brambles/branches left by the fencing people. We came in after soaked to the skin, but after a hot bath and dry clothes we felt better for getting this task sorted

First day of spring today, we seem to have aqquired a small pack of pheasants which spend most of the day under the birdtable pecking seeds etc which fall as the wild small birds munch. We have at least 7 different breeds of wild bird on the table and hanging seed and peanut holders most of the day, its lovely to see them so close

thankyou for your lovely comments try harder, its nice to know someone enjoys reading my little rambles

i think a lot of the secret to getting what you want in life is hard work, positivity, and a goal you feel passionate about to work towards.. you only have to read a few diaries on here to see this in action too !

Today the workshop stonework is looking really good, the guys doing the work should be finished tommorow or thursday, and the door people are coming friday to measure and order the new workshop door..

We had the roofer out to quote sunday morning for the new roof, we agreed a reasonable price , and he thinks he can fit the job in June, so this gives us 3 monthsto save up
I may have to use some of my horse savings, but this will be paid back in a loan fashion, i wont be using the money till spring 2018, so its not a major issue

    what a wonderful spring weekend!
we managed to get a lot done, another area cleared of undergrowth, overgrown branches chopped, and the last of the three maoosive xmas trees chopped down and also chopped into logs, and stored away in a dry corner of the workshop for future use as fuel for the range

Daughter and son came to help, which was great, we all worked really hard, all aching today though! I bought us all a takeaway curry after, seeing as it was mothersday i gave myself a night off cooking (thats my excuse anyway lol )

I was spoiled with loads of mothers day gifts, a fancy coffee/latte etc maker and loads of pods to go with it, chocolate vodka, wine, flowers, loads of packs of different flavour hotel chocolat chocolates, cute little teddy, and son has a surprise , he said it was still being made, so thats something to look forward to.. they have really spoilt me, i am lucky

on money news, its payday tommorow, as ive already done all budget/savings etc for this month, will just be a matter of account tidy for anything above hubbys salary that i calculated , may be a few pounds more than my estimate, this can go to savings account for now, may make overpayment after direct debit has gone out on the 1st of april, i do like to round the mortgage balance down so it ends in 00s

quote came in at £2400 for roller door for hubbys workshop, a little more than expected so all this months cash on payday except bill money is going on this, alongside the £2000 already saved for this. The door is being fitted mid April, one more step towards workshop upgrade, just roof to go
