Awwwwwwwwwww twin panda boys born in Atlanta Zoo six days ago....Congratulations to Lu Lu

Just an update on the Atlanta panda twins....

This thread was started jut over two years ago when the twin pandas Mei Lun and Mei Huan were born in Atlanta Zoo. They are the only surviving twin pandas still surviving born in a US Zoo. Well they celebrated their 2nd birthday back in July and they are still together in the same enclosure and will be until they reach sexual maturity at about age 4.

A giant panda at the Vienna zoo gave birth to a cub ten days ago.

Then yesterday, everyone was surprised to find that there was a second cub which had been hidden!

Nice story in the Daily Mail about Yang Yang a cub in Vienna who give birth to twins. Unusually she is looking after both cubs at the same time. Usually the zoo swaps one cub out at a time and the panda just looks after one of them. In the wild they tend to reject the weaker cub

The two pandas this thread was originally started about the Atlanta twins Mei Lun and Mei Huan will be returning to China in November. It is part of the agreement with US zoos that any cubs return to China when around 4 years old.

Sad news in the land of the pandas! Jia Jia the oldest surviving female panda who lived at Ocean Park in Hong Kong was put to sleep on Sunday. She has not been eating or drinking and could not walk anymore...

This is a pic I took of her a couple of years ago
