Sure Start Maternity Grant Question

Hiya,

Im after some advice about the Sure Start maternity grant please. My step daughter is pregnant and works full time and I was a bit confused if shes allowed to claim as she does not claim benefits. Its her first child and at the moment she lives with her grandmother.

Unfortunately shes on and off with her boyfriend at the moment, there has been talks of her moving in with him and making a go of it. Hes out of work at the moment and claims contribution based JSA and housing benefit. If she does decided to move in with him and make a go of it does that change her circumstances?

Thanks for the help, he doesnt work at the moment hes on JSA. So if she goes it alone can she claim then? Im just trying to gather the information for her and let her know her options. Were trying to save a bit of cash for her and the baby ourselves to help her out a bit. They should of sorted out their relationship first before all this, but they don't listen

She is not entitled to claim the grant as she works fulltime and not in reciept of a qualifying benefit.

She may not be entitled to a benefit at the moment but once the baby is born may be entitled to WTC/CTC I think you have 3 mths to claim, my son and his GF weren't entitled until baby was born.

This is confusing but a simple question!
If you are expecting your 1st child but not on any benefits do you qualify for Sure Start Maternity benefit?

You would only qualify after receiving child tax credits at more than the family premium.

Looking at the .gov website, what possible recipient of Pension Credit might ask for a maternity grant!
