Malus Red Sentinel Crab Apple Tree
Our local Aldi have had their ornamental trees reduces for a week or so to £2.49 (I bought a birch and an ornamental almond last week).
This morning I popped in and was in two minds whether to buy a crab apple.
I didn't bother but had to call in again this afternoon and they had reduced them all to 99p!
Even though it is very twiggy with no greenery at all, I did the thumb nail test and it was green so I bought it.
I am going to put it in a large patio pot as I don't want it to get too big.
Do any other members have this variety (Malus Red Sentinel) or grow crab apple trees in pots?
Ta.

I do know that the Crab Apple Golden Hornet from 2 years ago were on M9-337, which is a dwarfing rootstock (to 2 metres height). I bought one from a Kent fruitgrower, and paid 26 quid.... then saw the Aldi ones had exactly the same grower's label on the stem.
Most Aldi trees are dwarfing, or semi-dwarfing, so you may be in luck. I have bought many from them, and most have grown well but small.
I haven't seen the RedSentinel, though.

Small is good.
I may pop in tomorrow as it is on the school run and have a look at the Japanese Cherry Blossom ones that they had, it is worth a punt for 99p!
They have 40cm pots in Sainsburys at the minute for just under £3 which I may take a look at.
