Lily beetle time

Just a quick reminder that it's the time of year when lily beetles come out to play. I have been picking them off lilies and fritillaries and then crushing them. They are small, admittedly beautiful, bright red beetles. If you leave them they will lay eggs everywhere, which hatch into munching larvae that have the delightful habit of hiding in their own poo.
I try to live and let live as much as possible in the garden, but I draw the line at these evil critters. I even get a worrying amount of glee if I find a couple of them, err, making more lily beetles. Well at least they die happy. :-)

I have been picking them off mine for a few weeks now, a tip, as you go to pick them off the plant placed cupped hand under them first, the little blighters drop off the plant at slightest hint of danger, and they drop belly side up, so instead of nice bright red top only black belly is up, which on soil is just about impossible to seeMember of "Rubbish at Radishes" club0

Me too, I have four of the same lillies in one part of the garden (Lots of others too) but out of the four one is always being attacted! The other three are fine. So I check in the morning and when Im home and for the last three weeks getting at least two on each occasion from the same plant!
