Help picking a firm mattress :(

Hey guys,

Currently have a memory foam mattress and it's doing my back in :( Wondering if anybody has recently bought something or can advise against certain brands etc.

I have always suffered from lower back pain and when I found this I thought it could be a good bet:

http://www.mattressman.co.uk/mattresses/sealy/millionaire-ortho-double-mattress.aspx

However, after doing a bit of reading on here, I found that sealy was owned by silent night and that it could potentially be a bad choice, especially as I've had a bad experience from "miracoil" beds, and that is essentially what this is I believe.

So this lead me to Pocket sprung. It looks like pocket sprung mattresses should be better than that offering (?), which lead me to the airsprung brand, and more precisely this offering which looks decent.

Then somebody was speaking of some bad experiences with the airsprung brand, and has led me to totally rethink it all lol!

Any advise appreciated!

Cheers,

~Mattresshunter kev

Sealy are made and sold under licence by Silentnight and yes the posture spring or whatever it's called from Sealy is no better then the miracoil spring unit.

Airsprung for years have always made Open Coil mattresses and only recently moved into making pocket sprung matts.

Yes a pocket sprung mattress will give better support then an open coil mattress, and it's support you need not firmness.

As to what is good that's as always down to budget, you can get cheap pocket matts, you can get very good quality at over a £1,000's

What size matt do you require and what's the budget?

Also what type of base is the mattress going onto?

  • Cheers for your input pinky, sounds like you're a bit of a guru.

Only looking at a couple of hundred budget wise, as it's to tide me over until moving out sometime in the next year (will be taking it along too though i'm sure, so it may as well be half decent). Is it very much a what you get is what you pay for market? Just i've seen some pretty expensive flops about!

Regards to the base, in this case a very cheapo single bed, likely to be mdf construction, with under storage. Top is solid (the slats not visible) material covered.

I'm thread hijacking a little so apologies in advance but there are already 2 mattress threads so I didn't want to start a new one!

I was looking at a Yanis pocket 1200 latex mattress.

I was wondering if anyone had bought from them before?

I am looking to buy a king size mattress. I am a big mover in bed, I tend to sleep on my side but often wake due to aching/pain .
I have read alot on the factory beds direct website and was also considering buying the origins comfort and then possible a mattress topper...
I have tried to read as much as possible but the more I read the more confused and indecisive I get!
I am around 10st and my partner 13st... I think we want a medium firmness bed.
    Thanks in advance!

We have the one below on our sons bed and its really good quality, we also have the same make on our bed but the Sweet Dreams Majesty one and have had it 11 years now eek! but its still going strong.

We have had no issues with rolling in the centre, it has stayed firm.

I bought a kingsize from Factory Beds Direct and would definitely recommend both the products and the company. if you give them a ring they are really good at advising based on your requirements (firmness/weight of people using etc). We had an origins pocket latex and it really is comfy!

    Hi all.
Whatever you buy DO NOT go for the Sealy Millionaire Ortho. We purchased one and after one week it was already sagging length ways and width ways.
After 4 months of fighting we have finally had it collected.

Manufacturers have also jumped on the band wagon and advertising a NO TURN MATRESS.
These are a waste of time and will half the life of your bed.

In short, the more springs a mattress has it is usually a better quality.
