Hi

My friend took out a loan from barclays about 8 years ago it was for professional careers studying medicine/dentistry/law....

Is there such a thing now?

I do not mean the profession/career loan that they currently offer where they ay your learning provider your tuition fees and then give you a bit for accommodation...etc...

Thanks

Which did he take - he could not have been studying for all of them?

Yes they are still in existence but banks are much more stringent these days in who they lend to and the course being undertaken.

Sorry but you will need to search all banks yourself and see what they have to offer and what the conditions of the loans are.

Medicine tends to qualify for Student Finance. What exactly is it that you wish to study, or have you already started the course?

    Hi

Didn't mean to be lazy...just you said that they are still offering these I checked all the major banks and didn't see this, so just wanted to ask here... Thanks Anyway.

Dogger69: I know I get student finance , just my friend got the loan as an addition to that so I wanted to ask if that was still available...

    Thanks!

Thats a professional career development loan. I came across this, for 2/3 year vocational courses. Not medicine.... ;)

I Was enquiring about a 'professional studies loan' which was available to students on professional career courses as described in my Original post, Barclays was doing this in 2006 for sure.

    Thanks anyway!!

It is exactly the same thing under a different name. The only thing that has changed is that more courses are eligible now. It was never intended to supplement Student Finance. The reason I am certain of this is because I looked at the Barclays offering in 2006 myself ;)

But as a medical student can I apply for this?

As it states for vocational courses lasting 2/3 years and you must have no other means to pay....

This is from the loan offered by barclays in 2006...
