Is this a good double glazing quote?

We have just been quoted £5800 for TRIPLE glazing (not double as the title states). Does this sound like a fair quote?
This is for a bay window with 'leaded squares' (not sure what the real name is for it!) and another two large window's and a small window all with leaded squares for the front of house. Two more plain large windows and a small frosted window at the back.
All front windows would have equal sitelines.
Is sounds good to me but I was expecting a much larger quote but it is the first quote I have received...

Just to add, the company are FENSA regulated and the work would come with a ten year guarantee.
I don't have the dimensions but as a guide, the bay will have four large and four fan light windows with four openings (two at top and two at bottom). The other large windows are roughly the same size in width.0 -
sounds ok to me for comparison for you
5 windows also triple glazed
1 huge ish window and 1 med and 3 smaller (1 smaller fixed) £1639

oh and fitted dec 201263 mortgage payments to go.
Zero wins 2016 😥0 -
I managed to get the price down to £5100 in the end without the equal sight light windows to the front, which is not something that I really wanted anyway.
Sizes are as follows so if anyone could tell me if this sounds good I would very much appreciate it as I still have time to cancel if not!
1 X bay window with lead roof (we currently have a flat window). Not sure of size but probably 2000mm wide by 1600mm in length. Will have two big openers and two fan light openers with the other two large and two fanlights being dummies.
1 x 1600 by 1300 with large and fanlight opener (other two are dummies)
1 x 560 by 1300 with large and fanlight opener
1 x 1200 by 1200 with large and fanlight opener (other two are dummies)
ALL ABOVE HAVE LEADED SQUARES ON GLASS
1 x 1070 by 1070 with large and fanlight opener (other two are dummies)
1 x 1070 by 1250 with large and fanlight opener (other two are dummies)
1 x 550 by 1270 with toughened frosted glass and fanlight opener only.
ALL ABOVE ARE PLAIN GLASS I.E. WITHOUT LEADED SQUARES.
All windows have white UPVC frames with chrome handles and are all triple glazed.
We got a DOUBLE glazed quote of the above for £5950 originally which we were told could be dropped to £4300 if we got the work done within two weeks so arwe now having doubts although the one we have sort of decided to go for is triple glazing which makes me feel that it is a better deal?0 -
Well certainly don't go with the 1st quote:eek:
It may well eventually prove the best option, but how will you know unless you find others?
And remember that a personnel recommendation from someone you know can be a great help.;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Thanks for the reply.
We don't know anyone who has had any done recently unfortunately.
We have had two quotes so just a little unsure as to what the the average price is and what the price should be.
The second quote we got was originally £18,000 (apparenly- not that anyone ever purchases at that price I imagine!), which was then knocked down to £8,500 as they had an 'up to 40% off deal', then knocked down to £5900 as he was going tp put it down as one of his commercial deals and then we got a phone call to say if we let them know right now and had the work donw on the dates they specified they could do it for even less. Usual pushy salesman tactics I suppose.
The first company simply gave us the quote. They have an offer on triple glazing at the mo and it is the same price as double lazing as on special offer which it seems to be as the double glazing quote came out at a similar price. Just wondering as now the price has dropped more for the double glazing if it is worth paying the extra for the triple, will it be worth it in the end?0 -

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Now you realise why I posted, the bogof's and the "we are in your area" or "don't have a showhouse in this area are common place, ignore them as you have realised, bottom line versus spec is all that really matters, anything above that you pay for extras or the reassurance of someone trusted.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Have you asked a local building firm, rather than double-glazing showrooms? I've always found them a bit cheaper, and I feel they've done a better job in fitting & finishing than most DG firms seem to do! They also don't tend to quote high, call the boss, quote half the price, then do you a faver an nok a few more qid orf 'cos they like you...0

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Good point.
Our local builder has another side to his company, he has a small unit on a trading estate welding up window frames for the local trade and his renovations, he is the best value around in our location.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
