Good morning,

When entering the answers on the website do you need to include the dashes? i.e. as in 11 & 13 across and 4 down.
Thanks in advance and have a great weekend!

Hi Shado,

Thanks for asking about the dashes. I really don’t know the answer to your question I’m afraid. I put the dashes in when filling in the form. My opinion would be it would be okay as long as the answers are correct but I could be completely wrong. Maybe you could start a thread over in the compers chat corner and see what the majority of compers do/think?

If you would like to contact them to find out for definitate the email is pickmeup@ipcmedia.com or if your on Facebook their page is HERE.

Good luck with the comp

Hi Alison18,

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it.
I will do a bit more investigating and if I cannot find an answer I will email them as you suggested.
Thanks again.

hiya, i used to post these for years on here & alison kindly took over to do them for us
tbh i never put dashes in the answers, just left a space inbetween if the answer was/is a 2 word answer & know friends who post these on other sites & they don't include the dashes either
i had lots of winners from the postings when i did them so imho i don't think the dashes should be added into the entry but each person has thier own way of posting & i'm not saying they shouldn't include them
(before someone shoots me down in flames )
as alison suggests maybe best to ask them & get clarification, hth xx

I may be mistaken but isn't there the - in some of the clues, ie (2-5), rather than (2,5)....let me see if I have a copy to take a peek

I've found Issue 31 - jezz I need a clearout

For example

1 Down ~ Clue: Olympic ball-thrower (4-6)
14 Down ~ Clue: Small Wind instrument (3,7)

So in answer to your question I personally would use the hypen when Alison uses it

hiya yep, sometimes in the mag clues they use dashes to let you know it's a 2 word answer but am sure you don't add the dashes in the entry form, when filling in the crossword grid to send postal entry there's no space for a dash so makes sense to me how can the answer have a dash in the answer
if the answers are read through the machine surely the dash would make another 'digit' & make the answer look like
sausage-meat which would be 8 instead of 7,4
in all the years princessmoneysaver & me posted these on here am sure we never put dashes in the answers

i'm going to phone them tomorrow & ask now got me curious

I don't think there is a right or wrong....but it will be interesting to see what they say. I suspect it probably doesn't matter and they'll accept both.

FWIW when I fill in the postal entry I add the -

I do with the crossword, I often add a line in crosswords where two words are required or a hypen where is says - I know, I know

well, in all the years since the mag came out & been doing them/seen various questions/answers/query's/replys etc you're the first i've seen/heard/say they put a dash inbetween the words on the grid in the mag it would be brill if you were correct & we should all be doing it
