LBM in 2003.. What have I been doing since??! 5th Jan 12 at 3:32 PM
    Hello

I have decided to start a diary. Have lurked on here since early 2009, subscribed to loads of threads, loved all the camaraderie and found it very useful for getting shot of debt, starting savings and all that kind of good stuff but then have slipped and skidded into more debt, especially as I left a FT job this spring and yet seem to be still living as if I was FT and not PT...loving feeling more human though and seeing more of the kids but financially it's not great. I need to welcome and appreciate living a much more frugal life.

HOWEVER..even writing that seems bonkers as for a household we are well off with an embarrassingly high income of about 90k gross. But clearly as the newly updated signature shows there is no hiding that we (OH, me and 2 DDs) are living beyond our means, failing to prioritise the right things and generally need to rectify all this otherwise, well no otherwise, it simply can't continue. All the savings and OP pot will go and I won't be able to rob Peter to pay Paul anymore which is what I think I have been doing.. Not sure ( which is also embarrassing ) but must have been plus then started to use the 0% credit cards again which can be a slippery slope if not used properly.

I am going away now to do some more on why I have got myself into this mess, ensure I am clear there is no going back and also what my goals are. Hoping this will help me focus and as you guys ( hope you're reading are such a supportive bunch on here I am hoping you will also help me! But even if no one reads, I think I need the discipline of sticking to a programme..I can't afford to slip again. This needs to be a new permanent way of life. Currently we try and do all the things that make us feel good about ourselves, the world, the environment, our family..but perhaps we can't do it all and need to make choices? I guess everyone must but we have just not had to as yet.

So a few things to do. Sorry for rambling first post but I needed to take the first step!! Which also reminds me must check out the 'what DFW things have you done today' thread..that used to be magic. Used to love doing that 'stock take' every day

    Onwards and upwards

    Cheers

    Brizzle

    Like it!!

Done some TTs and updated YNAB to optimistically forecast monies to move later on this month ... hmm. We shall see. Plan to do my money round up tomorrow.

Good interest on EBay items. Need to post more. Dinner in SC as working late. Veggie chilli recipe which I added some amazing organic stewing steak to from a local farm. But got up at 5am to do it. Increasingly think I am nuts.

Have a great day ladies and gents

Morning Brizzle, you made me laugh with the 'veggie chilli to which I'm adding meat' type of comment.

We eat at least three veggie meals per week and Mr T invariably says 'lovely but could have done with some [insert type of] meat'

Have a good day, Tilly xxx

It was ridiculously delicious. Everyone loved it. We will be doing that again. And as was late home from work was able to fall on it when I came home starving.

Thanks for dropping by - Hope alls well with you. Busy in RL at the moment. One of the main organisers for a charity event we hold every 2 years.. taking up a lot of time and thinking stuff as well as full on at work. But MSE stuff ticking over. In much better place overall - working an extra day per week since April is helping hugely (doh.. obvious comment alert!!) so more income and stopping a lot of eating out has helped. Also a high value lodger () in that the arrangement is worth between £7-800 PM as he's a student who eats with us etc. All of this has made 2017 a much better year money wise.

Weather miserable here. Hope it's better for the weekend

    Have a good Friday all

    Hello

So...finally getting to the monthly round up.

We did save i.e. put towards tax funds, pay off last CC bill etc 1/3 of our income which is frankly pretty astonishing. It helped massively that we had a frugal 2 weeks on holiday as our grocery bill was much lower, although we were only feeding 4 not 5. Our household bill went up, we spent a lot on some badly needed new furniture. Maybe the weather helped? I wonder if we spend more when it's dark and wintry.

    So...pretty good. A B- perhaps?? Or even a B.

For September I want to have 15 AFDs and declutter 100 items, 25 have already gone. I also want to list more Bay of E items and try for 33% saving.

    Wish me luck!!

    Xx

Tilly Tidies after the wonderful Tilly who is on these threads. Yes it's rounding down to the next pound, ten pounds or sometimes when I am feeing really rash the nearest £100... you put it towards debt or into your savings. Stress free way to build up a surplus/pay off more debt without really realising. Plus for me it helps me feel that every day something good is happening on the money front.

Good luck for the targets Brizzle

You've really made me think there - make a veggie meal and add meat. DH won't eat veggie meals, so I am always looking for meat based meals. This might be a way of getting some more variety. So obvious, but it's never occurred to me - thanks

I've done that before for Mr SA - cooked his meat separately then added it to the veg meal afterwards, that way we're both happy. Having said that I've been known to have two slow cookers on the go at the same time, one with veg curry, another with meat.

It works really well with beef and mince I think jwil. Not so sure it'd work with chicken or duck for example. But certainly cheaper and a more balanced meal of proteins with beans as well as meat.

Good day yesterday. Not sure of the exact amount of funds raised yet but another success

On the MSE front EBay is going well. Must do more - know I always say that but I must do it and will set myself a deadline of next Friday to list. Decluttered another 10 items.

Crazy week at work next week, must preserve my energy by sleeping as much as I can. No social engagements which will help.

Hope everyone has a good week
