LBM in 2003.. What have I been doing since??! 5th Jan 12 at 3:32 PM
    Hello

I have decided to start a diary. Have lurked on here since early 2009, subscribed to loads of threads, loved all the camaraderie and found it very useful for getting shot of debt, starting savings and all that kind of good stuff but then have slipped and skidded into more debt, especially as I left a FT job this spring and yet seem to be still living as if I was FT and not PT...loving feeling more human though and seeing more of the kids but financially it's not great. I need to welcome and appreciate living a much more frugal life.

HOWEVER..even writing that seems bonkers as for a household we are well off with an embarrassingly high income of about 90k gross. But clearly as the newly updated signature shows there is no hiding that we (OH, me and 2 DDs) are living beyond our means, failing to prioritise the right things and generally need to rectify all this otherwise, well no otherwise, it simply can't continue. All the savings and OP pot will go and I won't be able to rob Peter to pay Paul anymore which is what I think I have been doing.. Not sure ( which is also embarrassing ) but must have been plus then started to use the 0% credit cards again which can be a slippery slope if not used properly.

I am going away now to do some more on why I have got myself into this mess, ensure I am clear there is no going back and also what my goals are. Hoping this will help me focus and as you guys ( hope you're reading are such a supportive bunch on here I am hoping you will also help me! But even if no one reads, I think I need the discipline of sticking to a programme..I can't afford to slip again. This needs to be a new permanent way of life. Currently we try and do all the things that make us feel good about ourselves, the world, the environment, our family..but perhaps we can't do it all and need to make choices? I guess everyone must but we have just not had to as yet.

So a few things to do. Sorry for rambling first post but I needed to take the first step!! Which also reminds me must check out the 'what DFW things have you done today' thread..that used to be magic. Used to love doing that 'stock take' every day

    Onwards and upwards

    Cheers

    Brizzle

Ha pooh, thanks brilliant. I must remember that one.

Been AFD this week, even yesterday evening/early hours (slumped into bed at 4, woke up at 7 - just had a sneaky nap as a result) but will have a glass this evening as going out for a very special celebratory family meal which I organised last week. Very excited so hope it's as good as we plan. Pleased I have been AFD as wouldn't have got through a stressful week if I had been drinking and so so tired. Lots of extra work this week but the financial benefits will be there in a fortnight or so.

Used the time after the polling stations closed to reorganise my kitchen with DD1, declutter hugely and feel much much better about it all. She was a fantastic help and had lots of good ideas. She has also taken photos for Some eBay items to sell so need to sort listing this weekend.

Will update my signature...but decluttering target has been 100% exceeded

Current account looking tight, but have just made a TT of £3.34. Can't wait until my next money shuffle in a week's time. Unexpected income too from renting our camper to a friend, so that will be banked and used for the special meal with lots left over.

Received my copy of Economy Gastronomy from A"azon this morning (£4.30 inc. postage) so have used that to meal plan for next week. All veggie or pescartarian except for Spaghetti Bol (with organic lush mince from a local farm that was delivered last week) on Wednesday Some fresh ingredients to buy, but greengrocer will do for that one, on way back from work one day. Otherwise purse firmly shut.

Sitting in the garden enjoying Life. Thankfully the weather is a million times better now than earlier in the week.

    Have a great weekend all

    X

Great weekend celebrating my kids' hard work and now watching a movie, which given the sunshine seems weird but its what we wanted to do so we are.

Feeling bit rough - hope this cold doesn't come to much. One less than great thing about being FL is no sick pay so no work no money which will play havoc with the Tilly Tidies so will dose up and carry on. Didn't run today as think it'd have made me feel worse.

Another 4 items decluttered. EBay items loaded up and listed. Finally..as way off my sales target half way through the year. Small spend in the store on snacks - £4.95 - so a LSD only the second one. AFD too.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend and has an even better week

Thanks lovely ladies. Not too bad this morning but have tucked away some cold sachets just in case as they have me a boost yesterday.. gawd knows what's in them but they worked. (SM own brand

    AFD yesterday and a LSD.

Cycled to station, tick, have lunch which is fairly light, tick, started logging calories on the FitBit, tick, milk for my cups of tea so I can avoid the cafe, tick, poached salmon for tea and maybe hollandaise sauce - not exactly a tick but half a tick, maybe

Money is at rock bottom. I have left us £14 for four days.. but game on!

Another AFD and a NSD - whoop - finally one on the doors

Feel chirpy again which is a relief. Hope it holds.

HM bread in the BM. Last time it was lush. Can't wait. No TTs as such a tight current account but Friday is inching closer

    Thanks for dropping by.

Have just done the big money shuffle and another card hits the dust

Also started walking in the evenings with OH - lovely space to talk and be together. We are also in a good place as we're not arguing or getting on each other's nerves. Less stressed maybe now exams are finished for DD1? OK so at our first attempt we ended up at a wine bar !!! Weds night he went by himself but last night we managed to avoid alcohol and have a good time (and not argue)

Hasn't been much to Tilly tidy, but have cycled to/from the station everyday this week and done an exercise class. Plan to do one today as well. AFD are another 2 so will update signature. LSD yesterday as only bought mozzarella and aubergines for the Parmigiana we will eat today. Meal planning going well - only one meat dish a week too. Food shopping is pretty minimal, although as entertaining this weekend that will go up.

Very sociable weekend planned, including cooking up a feast for the Great Get Together.. although this street don't need an excuse to get together, eat or socialise

Have a good weekend folks, hope to catch up on diaries soon, hope you're all good xx

A wonderful weekend - full of sunshine, good food, lovely times with family and then dear friends and neighbours. My days have been in stark contrast to the utter misery of those affected by events in London or Manchester and now London (Finsbury Park) again. Feel very grateful and blessed. Cooked a huge feast yesterday - so leftovers for a few days which will be a relief given how much I don't feel like cooking or doing anything very much in this gorgeous heat. Also lots on at work so need to manage that too.

Exercise just didn't happen this weekend and there were no AFDs Loads more decluttering though for a charity event. Will update my signature.

On the MSE front everything is tightly packed down so not much chance of Tilly tidies but 2 large TCB payments are finally in confirmed which is good. Chasing another though. EBay sales - some watchers and a few more items to sell have appeared from the kids rooms We are also thinking of taking on another student for a few weeks in the summer. Not entirely sure but think we probably should. Kids can bunk up and also for some of the time they are away on school trips anyhow. Having 5 teenagers in the house though sounds a lot!!! :/

Shall I go for it?? The 5 would be for a max of 3 weeks

    Have a great week all

    Xx

Oh and a LSD yesterday - after spending a heap on Friday and Saturday on social events and food and alcohol buying. Yesterday spent less than a tenner on bits we needed - tomatoes, flour, garlic and pomegranates..
