LBM in 2003.. What have I been doing since??! 5th Jan 12 at 3:32 PM
    Hello

I have decided to start a diary. Have lurked on here since early 2009, subscribed to loads of threads, loved all the camaraderie and found it very useful for getting shot of debt, starting savings and all that kind of good stuff but then have slipped and skidded into more debt, especially as I left a FT job this spring and yet seem to be still living as if I was FT and not PT...loving feeling more human though and seeing more of the kids but financially it's not great. I need to welcome and appreciate living a much more frugal life.

HOWEVER..even writing that seems bonkers as for a household we are well off with an embarrassingly high income of about 90k gross. But clearly as the newly updated signature shows there is no hiding that we (OH, me and 2 DDs) are living beyond our means, failing to prioritise the right things and generally need to rectify all this otherwise, well no otherwise, it simply can't continue. All the savings and OP pot will go and I won't be able to rob Peter to pay Paul anymore which is what I think I have been doing.. Not sure ( which is also embarrassing ) but must have been plus then started to use the 0% credit cards again which can be a slippery slope if not used properly.

I am going away now to do some more on why I have got myself into this mess, ensure I am clear there is no going back and also what my goals are. Hoping this will help me focus and as you guys ( hope you're reading are such a supportive bunch on here I am hoping you will also help me! But even if no one reads, I think I need the discipline of sticking to a programme..I can't afford to slip again. This needs to be a new permanent way of life. Currently we try and do all the things that make us feel good about ourselves, the world, the environment, our family..but perhaps we can't do it all and need to make choices? I guess everyone must but we have just not had to as yet.

So a few things to do. Sorry for rambling first post but I needed to take the first step!! Which also reminds me must check out the 'what DFW things have you done today' thread..that used to be magic. Used to love doing that 'stock take' every day

    Onwards and upwards

    Cheers

    Brizzle

    - have listed some items on EBay. What do people think about posting overseas? Maybe I will just get a RM price, but I am always nervous.

You can block any country you are not comfortable sending to. The only country I block as standard is Russia, I've had too many problems there.

    Thanks hon. Good to know.

Managed to do some of my list on Sunday-

    - did a run Took DD2 as my pace setter and she was amazing - especially up the hills

    - meal planned for the week
    - checked euro stash which will be fine
    - decluttered a black bag full of stuff to CS/bin
    - had yummy chicken dinner with left over bits for risotto tomorrow and made the cake - not sure there will be any left when I get home this eve.
    - got a bid on an item

This working week has been full on but a NSD yesterday and
managed (just about) a fast day on Monday.

Hi brizzle - started reading The Recovering Spender. Something she wrote resonated with me:

"My spending was not a reflection of my value system. I valued family, growing old together, education, safety, my faith, and togetherness. If you looked at my checking account, you would be fooled into thinking I really valued eating out for dinner, shopping, entertainment, housing, cars, and random “stuff.”

How true - apart from the cars that checking account was mine!

I know.. there are some nuggets in it that's for sure. Glad it's useful. Some is a bit too obvious.. but we are all on a journey and I guess she now makes a living taking people right back to the beginning.

Thanks for sharing. Am so tired can hardly think so nice to get your message whilst on work train

    Earlier this eve

Quieter and differently paced day tomorrow. Much needed.

Some good news- TCB heading for a great payout. I have also received 2 x £50 John Lewis vouchers for complaining about substandard service - which made me feel much better I haven't decided yet what to use them for but probably Xmas presents?

Would have been a NSD today but DD2 popped out to get some pasta so that's snookered that. TTs done and money for THEM squirrelled away

    Hope everyone good

    Xx

Well done on the complaining. I think you should keep 90% for presents and 10% for a little treat of your own

Have to say there have been no reports of them in Brizzle..but not a great idea to effectively threaten people, especially as the nights get longer..

Bit weird at work at the moment, but just need to knuckle down..big changes for OH as well, so he needs time to work those through.

    Today I have:

    - posted an item sold on Bay of E..for double the starting price so happy. Prompt payment too, so will try and list some more items today
    - bought reduced bread...always love that as its wonderful bread from our local bakers. Now in freezer.
    - done TTs.
    - checked mortgage total and logged for the MFiT-4 challenge
    - plan to go for a run this weekend - not sleeping well again and feeling tired all the time which doesn't help the stress levels. Off alcohol which must help.

Must meal plan for next week, but other than that will take it easy and try and do some tidying up

Have a great weekend folks xx

Thanks. OH wrestling with it and rather sad

Have decided to work less today and concentrate on family and building some positivity

    On the MSE front -

    - TTs done
    - TCB payout requested..a small one, a big one is still pending
    - OH repaired laptop and its working again
    - doing an invoice which usually has a prompt payer and majority will be set aside for THEM
    - booked tickets for HT holiday using TCB
    - used contactless for Tube travel and think it will have been cheaper than Oyster
    - planning to post 2 items on Bay of E today
    - scrummy dinner planned. Tray bake using fish from freezer and then a chocolate steamed pudding. Fridge is empty and planning to send the freezer the same way Meal planning will be interesting this week but curry from freezer tomorrow for sure
