Have grasped the nettle..........now to deal with the ensuing rash. Part The Third ! 16th Aug 11 at 12:00 PM
Part 9 FFS! - when I question do I really need MSE anymore If you dont what to plough through the whole sorry tale just jump to post 1094

Part 8 - and now into 2015 with a bit more determination!

If you are dropping in here for the first time you could skip to post 914 which takes you to plans for 2015! I like to keep all my diary together rather than being a serial new diary starter! I am a slow burner and a bit of a procrastinator but 2014 was a good year for reducing the debt and I feel a bit more in control of things.......onwards and upwards

    Part 7 - reassessment and re-evaluation - starts posts 798
Which is what happens when you realise your debt hasn't decreased by much despite lots effort and your health is threatened.
Part 6 begins on post 586!
There can be found a list of goals for 2014!
    And now part 5..............
My life revolves around an academic calendar so I always feel at this time of the year I get another bite at the cherry of New Year Resolutions.......lucky me So with that in mind I have been running things through my head again so skip through if you wish to last page to see where I got to

Part 4 - would you believe!
As I am purist and like to keep al my thoughts in one place then I am just updating the first post of my rambling diary. Skip to the last page to avoid the being bored! I am not quite sure what happened to 2012...........I have stutterered and stumbled along with 'stuff 'getting in the way and stingers been thrown across my path. The last 3 months have been bl00dy hell - work related bl00dy hell. And yet despite it all the debt has gone down although not as much as I had hoped. New Year resolutions apart I am determined to make more of a dent in this debt thing this year - just need to get over its an odd numbered year and I dont like odd numbers - think its my only wierdy foible So jump forward to post 342 - I have jotted down a few ideas there on how I am going to tackle things in 2013 including colouring squares - oops another wierdy thing

Have grasped the nettle..........now to deal with the ensuing rash. Part The Third for the rest of 2012!!!!!!!!!

Head in the sand for too long so I am off again. If you are new then really you can skip to the last page unless you really want to read my burbles of the last 12 months or so....... Anyway here I am again and rather than start a shiny new thread and deny I was ever going to get myself sorted I thought I would just jump back on here, bring it up to date and hopefully start again without too many 'what ifs' and if onlys'! So jump to post 246 with me and lets get started again

Below is where I started 12 months ago or so and my New Year kick-start......if you are interested only!

I am going to kick-start my DFW diary again, rather than start a new one for 2012. I did have my LBM back in the summer and it was a bit of a slow low energy one !!!8211; all which documented below if you really wanted to wade through it. I really did grasp the nettle - armfuls and I really did make inroads but as many on these forums say it!!!8217;s a roller coaster ride; high and lows with accompanying enthusiasm. A couple of unexpected bills and a bit of a drawn out illness ( I don!!!8217;t do poorly very well) floored me for a while so I took a back seat and decided to lurk and follow and post sometimes on others fascinating journeys, picking up tips and inspiration along the way. I can honestly say we haven!!!8217;t ended the year any worse off!!!8230;..well if I sat down and did the figures I would have a better picture. We have certainly curbed our spending a bit and cut back in some areas. I have got a clearer picture now of how I am going to tackle all this!!!8230;!!!8230;!!!8230;!!!8230;!!!8230;!!!8230;.

2012 I feel will be a strange year for me which I will expand on no doubt as I post more. I am more determined now, than I was back in August to, !!!8216;deal with the rash!!!8217;. Tomorrow I will post my plans, lists, lists of lists and hopes for the new year. I am happy to babble to myself but also happy to listen to others, so pop in if you want.

Just leaves me to say Blwyddyn Newydd Dda pawb. Happy New Year everybody. Here!!!8217;s to 2012

BELOW IS WHERE I STARTED IN AUGUST 2011. Skip to post 96 for the 2012 start

Until yesterday I hadn!!!8217;t had a LBM, more of a low energy dim glow type moment. It!!!8217;s been there in the background, that I really needed to get a grip with the finances. Being in education this is a good time of year the !!!8216;new year!!!8217; in September always feels like a second chance at resolutions
So I found myself here. I joined a couple of !!!8216;fun challenges!!!8217; just to keep me focussed and started reading other people stories. Lots seemed to start with a declutter and that is now well under way !!!8211; the !!!8216;purge!!!8217; has been quite energising I have to say and is a work in progress!
Yesterday had been designated paperwork day and I knew this would be when it hit home just how bad it was. Sitting in the garden with the cats chasing butterflies I sifted through the paper, filed, recycled, shredded and finally reached for the calculator. That was when the 150w bulb switched on. On a gloriously warm day I was suddenly very cold and then felt strangely excited!!!8230;!!!8230;!!!8230;very odd. Last night was not sleepless and this morning I began to worry that I wasn!!!8217;t taking all this seriously enough. Now I feel quite calm. I am sure its because I have finally decided to deal with it. No looking back and slipping into bad habits. There are ways and means to get rid of the rash and I am determined to do it.
I have decided that I will not be putting the figures on here. I will keep my own record and possibly write up the percentage my debt has reduced every now and then. However if you are interested here is a flavour: Including my mortgage, rounded up debt is £38000. Mortgage will be finished in 3 years and is a joint debt with my OH so I will not be including it in my DF efforts. The 150w moment? My CC debts are bigger than the outstanding mortgage that!!!8217;s what made me shudder.
Well, the opening page to my DFD; first step and I feel confident I will add to it when I can and I hope you will pop in now and then to see how things are going

So log on for the first time in blimmin ages to find I have an 8 year anniversary badge............kinda reminds me I am no further on really Now that is sad.

Yes all is well Brizz and NOA and thanks for asking! - been MIA as RL is just getting in the way. Physical bits OK, well on the mend. Work is taking up ALL my time and head space taken up with trying not to be concerned about DD1 who has dumped her BF of 10 years but seems to be trying to make up for lost time.........in that she is embarking on what she should have done at 21, post degree or at 18 pre degree. She is old enough to make her own decisions but deep down I do wonder/worry..............

Anyway the Idiot in Charge has yet again not returned to work in September - third one running Not sure how they get away with it. So yours truly stepping in again holding the fort........this time though I am not keeping it ticking over. As a team we are making changes and moving forward in a way we have wanted to for some time. I am happy to take responsibility if the Idiot in Charge doesnt like it ...............I am on a countdown to freedom after all

PS. My LBM supposedly happened in 2003.. so let's simply consider ourselves as in good mutual company

Hi Igamogam Good that you can take control as a team to make things work for the better, can't see that she could argue against if you are all working together! Though going by what's gone before she probably will!

Sorry to hear about DD worries, that's a long time invested in a relationship. Hope it all works out soon. Its hard not to worry though. My DD is coming up to 2nd anniversary with her BF, this year they are apart doing different things, so it will be a good test!

Re 8 year MSE badge - you must a lot further forward as you also have a Mortgage free badge?! And you have a plan.....

2017 started well.....good intentions, good momentum, good results and for the first 3 quarters of the year all looking good. I was a year where I realised I could make a lasting change to my health without any doctor - felt strong healthy and positive. Survived a reorganisation and the Idiot in Charge was just an Idiot really.

Things began to hurtletowards the buffers in late summer - heavy financial outlays which stripped all of my nice EF and some, so CCs came back into play. OH left it until the last minute ( about 2 weeks) to tell me he was once again on his Trip of a Lifetime and away for 5 weeks. DD2 parted from her BF of 10 years, gave up on her life she has had away from home the last 8 years and decide a reboot was in order. She moved back temporarily with her wordlies and decided to spend the winter away improving her extreme sport of choice and pick up work when and where she could. I returned to work after summer break and found I had to take up the mantle of In Charge at a very busy time of year with a full set of mad frogs that have been the worse we have ever had....and that is saying something! Just when I thought things might settle down my oldest, dearest and closest friend died very suddenly - admitted to hospital, diagnosed with multiple cancers and died all in the space of 4 days. It was a devastating shock to all her knew her. I spoke to her on the day she was admitted and you would not have known anything was wrong. At 51 with 2 children, one still in school, she still had a life to lead. In our close circle of friends it has left a huge incomprehensible hole and I am not sure I/we have processed it properly yet. I have spent some dark times since thinking about how things can be snatched away from you very quickly - life brought into sharp focus. I have taken my eye off the ball since then - health, finances, relationships, work goals. 2017 ends with me planning how I can get back on track with all 4. I know what to do health wise. As far as work goes I may just be the whistle blower this year and make a concerted effort to get those early retirement plans kick started again which are wrapped up killing the debt. Finances are not where I wanted them to be but again I am an old hand at this debt busting thing so I am disappointed but not daunted. As far as relationships go.......I need to reassess who are real friends and I feel that 2018 maybe make or break year for OH and I and this makes me sad and possibly a little fearful for the future.

Spending quiet night seeing in NY with true friends tonight and wondering what 2018 will bring for all of us.

Happy New Year. Blwyddyn Newydd Da. To all of you who take an interest in my ramblings

Uuurgh....just when I thought I may get a grip on 2018 and get back on an even keel I get a curve ball. My OH had a message form my,well...half sister I guess that she wants to buy my father ( hers too) a ticket to come an visit us this year and would this be OK.........its a long story. My family is flung across all corners of the globe. We are not estranged, we just dont, never have really, live together and only communicate when we have to but we are strangely close when we get together - like we have never been apart - annoys the hell out of OH as he doesnt understand the non-bond, bond IYSWIM. Anyway I suspect there is more to it so I now need to dig a little further in that is it best he visits sooner rather than later.............. I have a brother and sister ( who I havent spoken to in over 20 years) Our mother died very young and our dad married again and he has children the same age and younger than mine. I dont have a problem with this. But I made it clear his new family was just that, HIS family and I would not consider them as siblings as such - we have a mutual respect and a language barrier - I rarely speak my first language now but maintain my EU nationality My parents 'worked' abroad all my childhood - professional globe trotting hippies I called them - I have spent some of my childhood and early in teens in some exotic places..........anyways thats why we are a close but not close family as its the norm for us.........yeah hard to get your head round.
So my difficulty is WHEN not IF this visit takes place. As a teacher my holidays are fixed and there is no point having a visit at any other time. We have plans to visit DD1 in her temporary place of snowy employment - so lots to ponder. I will start with my brother and get a bit more info Dad could always hide a lot.

    Oops rambled a bit!

So apart from family drama I have been plotting again - getting back into the swing of things - meal plans, change pots, envelopes,Eb*y ( sold something already ) hammering down the contents of the freezers and store cupboards and back to the low carb regime - easing slowly into that one as last time I went cold turkey and felt ill, even LOW carb! Have 10kg to shift before the summer - doable. Going back to yoga and swimming and just going to push through the pain in my shoulder which needs an ultra sound scan. Plan a lot more beach/mountain walks at weekends due to it being dark when I get home.....maybe that curve ball wont be so bad after all.....its just emotional and I had just about enough of that in the last few months

A birthday in the household tomorrow for DD2 - unusual in that we will be home for it - cant remember when the last time was we were not back at work/school and couldn't really celebrate properly on the day. So its breakfast and pressies at our favourite independent cafe followed by a little shopping trip for extreme sport gear and then a birthday dip in a lake - I will be taking pictures Family roast dinner on Sunday to finish off the weekend and prepare for return to work.

Sorry long post - just had to get some things down!

Going to be a difficult day today. Have to take much loved family pet for his final trip to the vet. I am the worlds greatest animal lover ....but I am not sentimental...these things happen and its the right choice....but it doesn't make it any easier. He has been quite a character and a part of all our lives for a long time. He was a rescue animal - I wouldn't have anything else - and has had a good life with us. It seems to have hit my OH very hard. Sad day.

I am so sorry to hear that you are going to have to make such a sad journey today and will be thinking of you. We had to say goodbye to our dearly-loved and heroic little rescue cat just before Christmas. As you say, they become a part of our lives - I am still sure I catch sight of him out of the corner of my eye as I go around the house. xx

So yesterday was a sad day and today is a little emotional too. We have buried him in his favourite sunny spot in the garden and now we have to clear up his bed/blankets etc. In the last few weeks we had to make a few adaptations to the house as he had become very disorientated and confused - kept getting 'lost' and trapped behind curtains. His little partner in crime is wandering around the house looking for him too although in the final stages he completely ignored the little one and pushed him out of the way every time he came near to snuggle up - they always slept together. Anyway, need to move on..........distractions needed so OH is being very MSE and looking at switching electricity suppliers and I am having a clear out of grocery cupboards, bathroom cupboards and study/office......I am avoiding doing work work too!

I feel 2018 can get off to a start now. 2017 shuddered to halt in late October when my best friend died suddenly and then January started with a few curve balls but now I feel I need to slough off a few burdens and get up and at it! We got an unexpected bill from previous electricity supplier back in 2016 - we thought it had been paid but clearly not. It could have been paid from my EF but at nearly £400 that was going to make a huge hole in it. Supplier are being OK however as they are only small they employ another company to deal with repayments by instalments.......and they are being total rissoles. They wont deal with me only my OH even though my name is also on the bill felt like I was being patted on the head and told to run along and put the head of the household on the phone........but they were quite happy in the meantime to take a part payment from me the patronising arris I was so close to just paying it by CC but I resisted! I got back onto supplier and they were not happy either and fired off an email to them on my behalf saying that they had to deal with me

Need to get to meal planning - half hearted this last week as we were still using up stuff from Christmas,NY and DD2 birthday so havent really had a proper shop or a look as to what is in cupboard/freezer - hence emptying cupboard out. Found a portion of HM chickpea curry thingy and 2 naans in freezer which we had last night and tonight is a chicken and chorizo thingy, also from freezer but couldnt identify until defrosted which we will have with baked potatoes that need eating - just reducing the carbs slowly not quite going 'cold turkey'!!

Right......tinned soup from cupboard for lunch - dont know why I have it as I rarely use tinned soup. Must have bought it for something specific and forgot. Hate waste so we will have it today Then back to the bathroom cupboard..........
