Have grasped the nettle..........now to deal with the ensuing rash. Part The Third ! 16th Aug 11 at 12:00 PM
Part 9 FFS! - when I question do I really need MSE anymore If you dont what to plough through the whole sorry tale just jump to post 1094

Part 8 - and now into 2015 with a bit more determination!

If you are dropping in here for the first time you could skip to post 914 which takes you to plans for 2015! I like to keep all my diary together rather than being a serial new diary starter! I am a slow burner and a bit of a procrastinator but 2014 was a good year for reducing the debt and I feel a bit more in control of things.......onwards and upwards

    Part 7 - reassessment and re-evaluation - starts posts 798
Which is what happens when you realise your debt hasn't decreased by much despite lots effort and your health is threatened.
Part 6 begins on post 586!
There can be found a list of goals for 2014!
    And now part 5..............
My life revolves around an academic calendar so I always feel at this time of the year I get another bite at the cherry of New Year Resolutions.......lucky me So with that in mind I have been running things through my head again so skip through if you wish to last page to see where I got to

Part 4 - would you believe!
As I am purist and like to keep al my thoughts in one place then I am just updating the first post of my rambling diary. Skip to the last page to avoid the being bored! I am not quite sure what happened to 2012...........I have stutterered and stumbled along with 'stuff 'getting in the way and stingers been thrown across my path. The last 3 months have been bl00dy hell - work related bl00dy hell. And yet despite it all the debt has gone down although not as much as I had hoped. New Year resolutions apart I am determined to make more of a dent in this debt thing this year - just need to get over its an odd numbered year and I dont like odd numbers - think its my only wierdy foible So jump forward to post 342 - I have jotted down a few ideas there on how I am going to tackle things in 2013 including colouring squares - oops another wierdy thing

Have grasped the nettle..........now to deal with the ensuing rash. Part The Third for the rest of 2012!!!!!!!!!

Head in the sand for too long so I am off again. If you are new then really you can skip to the last page unless you really want to read my burbles of the last 12 months or so....... Anyway here I am again and rather than start a shiny new thread and deny I was ever going to get myself sorted I thought I would just jump back on here, bring it up to date and hopefully start again without too many 'what ifs' and if onlys'! So jump to post 246 with me and lets get started again

Below is where I started 12 months ago or so and my New Year kick-start......if you are interested only!

I am going to kick-start my DFW diary again, rather than start a new one for 2012. I did have my LBM back in the summer and it was a bit of a slow low energy one – all which documented below if you really wanted to wade through it. I really did grasp the nettle - armfuls and I really did make inroads but as many on these forums say it’s a roller coaster ride; high and lows with accompanying enthusiasm. A couple of unexpected bills and a bit of a drawn out illness ( I don’t do poorly very well) floored me for a while so I took a back seat and decided to lurk and follow and post sometimes on others fascinating journeys, picking up tips and inspiration along the way. I can honestly say we haven’t ended the year any worse off…..well if I sat down and did the figures I would have a better picture. We have certainly curbed our spending a bit and cut back in some areas. I have got a clearer picture now of how I am going to tackle all this……………….

2012 I feel will be a strange year for me which I will expand on no doubt as I post more. I am more determined now, than I was back in August to, ‘deal with the rash’. Tomorrow I will post my plans, lists, lists of lists and hopes for the new year. I am happy to babble to myself but also happy to listen to others, so pop in if you want.

Just leaves me to say Blwyddyn Newydd Dda pawb. Happy New Year everybody. Here’s to 2012

BELOW IS WHERE I STARTED IN AUGUST 2011. Skip to post 96 for the 2012 start

Until yesterday I hadn’t had a LBM, more of a low energy dim glow type moment. It’s been there in the background, that I really needed to get a grip with the finances. Being in education this is a good time of year the ‘new year’ in September always feels like a second chance at resolutions
So I found myself here. I joined a couple of ‘fun challenges’ just to keep me focussed and started reading other people stories. Lots seemed to start with a declutter and that is now well under way – the ‘purge’ has been quite energising I have to say and is a work in progress!
Yesterday had been designated paperwork day and I knew this would be when it hit home just how bad it was. Sitting in the garden with the cats chasing butterflies I sifted through the paper, filed, recycled, shredded and finally reached for the calculator. That was when the 150w bulb switched on. On a gloriously warm day I was suddenly very cold and then felt strangely excited………very odd. Last night was not sleepless and this morning I began to worry that I wasn’t taking all this seriously enough. Now I feel quite calm. I am sure its because I have finally decided to deal with it. No looking back and slipping into bad habits. There are ways and means to get rid of the rash and I am determined to do it.
I have decided that I will not be putting the figures on here. I will keep my own record and possibly write up the percentage my debt has reduced every now and then. However if you are interested here is a flavour: Including my mortgage, rounded up debt is £38000. Mortgage will be finished in 3 years and is a joint debt with my OH so I will not be including it in my DF efforts. The 150w moment? My CC debts are bigger than the outstanding mortgage that’s what made me shudder.
Well, the opening page to my DFD; first step and I feel confident I will add to it when I can and I hope you will pop in now and then to see how things are going

Have been too busy to think. The Idiot in Charge has now 'returned' on a more permanent basis - ie we have seen them everyday last week. But work load still double as they have to 'catch up' so ongoing stuff is still down to me Have completed about 12 hours of 'work' paperwork so far since Friday with about 4 hours to go I reckon. So after this event which it all related to in mid April, I am hoping to step back a little on concentrate on my own job until the end of the year.......thats the plan!

Did manage a sneaky evening walk on the beach on Friday - last one off, in the dark, with a rising tide Wasn't in any danger NOA I couldn't live more than 5 mins from the sea. I need to see it,hear it,smell it! - tried it once and only realised when I came back after 3 years what is was that had been missing! Never again There is something about living on the edge of the land...........

Debt busting still going on - slow and steady and all that . No unnecessary spending. Contemplating on putting a small CC debt that has crept up () on a LOB card I have with no BT fee.....hmmm will think some more......

    Right things to do!

I do love the sea Igamogam, but don't have good sea legs, I only like it from the land Some of our best memories are from days by the sea. Perhaps when we retire (if ever!) it will be a cottage by the sea.

Have a great week, that's a lot of extra work paperwork. Hope you get paid overtime!

Week to go to a couple of weeks off....feel I should be there already. Nothing planned except catch up with some friends. DD2 is away to foreign climes on a field trip and DD1 is working over Easter. So its just OH and me...the reality of chicks flying the nest........uuurgh.

Need to do a couple of big jobs over the hols which will involve getting a bit of cash in - have to do some plannning and I will have to persuade OH that cash will go towards a new-to-us second car - his head is in the sand unfortunately

Holidays have started - went to favourite eatery this morning with DD2 for posh breakfast. Dropped off some 'clothes 4 money' and got £5.50 and find out they take books..... will have to have a good clear out some things waiting for fr**gle pick up. Treated DD2 in TeeKayMax, been to the dentist,2 loads of washing on line, made a cake, evening meal from stores and the sun is shining Feeling hopeful.............

    Hello Igamogam,
I know you don't get overtime - it was tongue in cheek comment
If we all got paid overtime for the extra ours I don't suppose we would be in debt! I know lots of people in education just because the "holidays" are good to work around family.

Sales are looking great! you seem to consistently make a success of them. Keeping meaning to take a leaf out of your book....

It took me a while to get used to the empty nest, it has been lovely for the last to weeks because DD back home for Easter, and working on her dissertation at home Everything feels more normal.

Enjoy the sun, it's meant to be nice here too this weekend. Planning to spend some time pottering in the garden.

    Have a lovely weekend

I signed up with the MSE credit club a while back - TBH I have never looked at until today when I opened up an email and had a bit of time to read through...............so now I have submitted PPI claims on 2 loans I forgotten we ever had, found I had an old MBN@ CC closed over 10 years ago that had a credit balance of £8.50 on - they have sat on that for 10 years. I know its only a piddly amount but that replicated many time over on a global scale...... and I whilst I was on a roll I finally submitted a claim on the phone for PPI on a CC which I still have but the PPI dates from 1986!

Feeling virtuous and just a little bit

Meeting up with a friend later for a proper catch up over a cup of tea. NO cake as have a had a carby couple of days - always happens when I am not working - pasta/rice/noodle dishes 3 nights on the trot!! Will walk across fields and through woods to meeting place - community run tea/coffee shop - so will definitely get my 10 000 steps in and walk off those carbs

Lovely spring day here so morning spent in garden doing a bit of weeding/sorting. Dinner tonight will be from stores - have eggs bacon sausage mushrooms to use up - low carb so will feel back on track. happy to stay the same weight whilst I am off work but I really do not want it back on Really must look at what we have in stores re food and make a proper meal plan. Could do with saving a bit of money for the rest of the month............

2 beach walks completed and 2 friends caught up with. 3 out of 4 days achieved the 10 000 steps goal

A to do list as long as my arm and the energy to tackle it - go me! A very strange feeling I must admit as for more years than I care to remember I have had a great deal of intention but felt wiped out most holidays, so just spent recharging.

Would like a beach walk to day but its grey and chilly. Anybody coming to look at the 'best view in UK' will be disappointed Think I may just go back to bed with a hot cross bun and a cup of tea before the Archers omnibus.......which I may also stay in bed for rather than clean the kitchen to.

Didnt get the Eb*y stuff listed, well just relisted a couple of things that didnt sell but had plenty of watchers so I thought it was worth another punt.......Went for a long beach walk after all - beach was deserted - tourists finding indoor attractions. Will try again today to list but not stressing over it. It will give me another chance to sort through and donate to CS pile.

Taking a couple of impulse buys back to the shop today and we are eating from stores so no spending going on here. Have a hairdresser appointment booked later in week - still holding out on having the basic cut and finish package and embracing the 'wisdom' I had voucher sent by email from salon for £5 off as its my birthday month and I have a few loyalty points to use up so should be even cheaper. Easter is proving to be a bit

Long busy day.......this new found energy is something else. Took impulse buy back and bought some gym pants which I needed and got some money refunded. Bought some large pot of daffs for 50p from the orange DIY store - they will look great next spring. Mini £5 shop that will last us the week as we are eating from stores. Little cat going to Vee Ee Tee tomorrow for annual booster - still using the weekly 'envelope' system for purchases like this so money already allocated

Going to catch up on Graham Norton now - loving not having to go to work tomorrow and being able to stay up late!!!!

Definitely needed a re charge yesterday! Did a bit in the garden - cutting down a large Clematis Armandii which is encroaching from our neighbour and beginning to cover our green house!

Need to start thinking about work again - have a couple of reports to write which I will save for this evening I think. Only in work 3 days next week so that is a nice way to get back in the groove and then its another BH weekend

Going to to a small food shop later to keep us going over weekend. DD2 back Monday night so will wait to see what meals she is going to be around for before committing to a bigger/regular shop. Still eating out of stores although combos are beginning to get a bit odd
