In Fenland, you get the choice of paying in 10 or 12 payments; most people opt for 10 payments (no option if you pay cash) and get February and March "free".

I can't comment on water rates as I'm on a metre, the payments for which are more than half the old water rates.
  • mine are feb and march, although i have changed them before to nov and dec.

So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • Ours was March and April....but then the local council decided to move the financial year back to beginning of April...meaning this year we only get March free..

When did we find this out....beginning of March!!! :(

Pretty much all offer 12 months rather than 10, basically you start getting your 'free' months money from month one that way

Just switched mine from 10 to 12 months :)

I actually continue to pay Council Tax if I can, even if it's half the amount, because then if I'm short one month (usually December!!) I can have a cheaper month!

The Council Tax financial year has always been 01 April to 31 March. The legal minimum the council work from is 10 payments from April to January however some will offer May to February instead, this is discretionary and they can revert to the statutory scheme for any year.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

When I moved into my new flat, they didn't value the property yet, so when I got the bill 2 months later, the payments were 154 quid/month...

that'll reduce to 122 / month in April, so this month is free... phew.
