If we have been transfered to a limited service, then I think that is going to be the best line of attack from a breach of contract point of view. I do sincerely hope that this is not the case though!
I guess no-one can do any more about their connections until after the Bank Holidays.
I'll take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Easter break.
I only pay £9.99 per month with `ukonline`. they`re part of `easynet`. I get unlimited use. If anyones interested I have a voucher which will give you 1 month free on sign up. The modem costs £25 but you could use your own ADSL connected via a serial port.
First of all, I can't find a £9.99 package at ukonline; minimum seems to be £14.99.
Secondly, if you read the dreaded 'Fair Usage' T & Cs, you'll find that they 'throttle' high users like me, even though the packages are advertised as unlimited. At least, though, they are very up-front and honest about this.
Nevertheless, looks like a fantastic offer from a very reputable company, and I thank you for your very useful post.
Did you guys download your 5GB during the peak hours? If so then you may be throttled until 11pm tonight, not alot you can do about this as that's the fair use policy.
Not sure how you avoid using lots of bandwidth during peak hours, obviously don't use p2p but will using iplayer trigger their systems to put you on the naughty step?
I've done my 5 gb limit not in one go, mostly in the morning. Thing is that I am a web developer and work over internet. Use of skype, remote desktop connections and browsing generate a lot of traffic, thats why I always was after unlimited deals. Bt had some fair usage policy as I remember but it was almost invisible when you browse just pages within the peak hours.
this is worse than i thought
many sites are now unusable
eg myspace music tracks won't play on band profiles
flash games won't load
can't even navigate much of njp's own website
MY ADVICE - STAY UNDER YOUR 5 GIG LIMIT UNTIL PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE - it's very hard to find any advice online at this speed limit
The thing that they didn't seem to understand when I spoke to Redten was that people that want unlimited tend to use alot of bandwidth, people that are happy being limited to 2GB would've gone with a limited service and only paid half the price!
This doesn't sound good if you're getting very slow speeds after general browsing etc. It sounds like you get throttled as soon as you hit 5GB, moment of truth is at 11pm when the FUP turns off in theory. Either that or after the 10 days they say it takes the line to settle down (not that I really believe that).
heyup guys.
well, as you probably saw from one of my earlier posts a couple of days ago, I had downloaded over 6gig and all was good.
well.. as you can guess, i'm now struggling to get download speeds of more than 3k.. oh joy... so far it has taken 1.5hours to dload 4.2mb.
knowing full well that i must have been throttled, I called RT and the guy said that it'll take a couple of days for the lines to settle down, I explained that I am actually and IT engineer and that was a load of garbage, especially to be getting no more than 5kb.. if the line was fluctuating it wouldn't be by so much. The guy just kept repeating himself until i ended up putting the phone down before i started to hurle abuse at him.
Has anyone looked into cancelling their contracts with RT and Clode yet? I can't live with getting throttled at 5gig, that's rediculous, I could get 40gig for free from Talk Talk, apparently they have bad customer service, but how much worse than RT could they be?
sorry for the rant. but please, anyone any advice on getting out of the contracts would be much appreciated.

Hi everyone, promised to post responses and updates from redten re my email problems through outlook and speed rates--
Well surprise surprise, no response to emails sent to redten but my emails are now working correctly through outlook, sending and receiving.
Ran several speed checks over 1hr 30 mins 7pm to 9pm --average speed was 5meg --ranged from 3.7 to 6.03, fluctuating rapidly. Interestingly tansports through usa and europe not a problem --through uk dismal. uploads ranged from 300kbg to 450kbg. Thats definitely poorer than before but it is true that it can be iffy for first few days on new lines so will retest over several days
Although I was out for most of day computer was on and the server was dropped 4 times, which did not happen before. So I am going to monitor it as well over the next few days
Hi
Just like to say I'm also looking for a way out of this contract and will join any joint action.
Regarding the email probs, I found that only the default email will work. All other email addresses created apear to be lost. If you log into the njp members section and click on email you can recreate the old accounts.
