Default 3-Maidenhead in my bank statement

I have checked my HSBC bank statement and found out that 3-maidenhead withdrew 0.50 pence. I don't live in Maidenhead. I wondered if 3-maidenhead has something to do with four unathorised cash withdrawls from my account. The pattern in withdrawals is this: the person ( fraudsater) withdrew twice in the space of one minute although s/he could withdraw once ( i.e. 50 pounds , rather than 30 pounds and 20 pounds. ) Anybody aware of fraud trend in the from of 3-maidenhead? Anybody know if any HSBC customer was robbed by 3-maidenhead 'scam'?

50p transactions are typically used in "One Check" when taking out a new mobile phone contract.

Check your Experian file for any credit searches made by Hutchinson 3G UK Ltd as someone may have applied for a mobile phone contract in your name.

It's the same as an online HMV purchase showing up as carried out in Guernsey, or ASDA in Leeds. It's just where the processing centre is registered (not necessarily based).

Don't panic Mr Mainwaring!!

3 Mobile. Like Vodafone, Orange, T Mobile etc ? They're based in Maidenhead, do you have a mobile with them ?

Three charge this when you take out a new contract with them. Three themselves aren't scamming you, but someone will have used your card to set up a new mobile contract. Check it out with Three and with your bank asap.

I think it's quite funny the way the OP is so so concerned about the so-called '3-Maidenhead scam' which he claims has cost him 50p, and so apparently unconcerned about the 'unauthorised' cash withdrawals from ATM's .... love to know how he knows the exact time interval between the 'unauthorised' withdrawals as well. Yet he doesn't mention that his card may have been lost or stolen ....

Love the way Newbie mitchlevy jumped on the bandwagon ...

Did you ever actually think to call your credit card company and ask for information about these transactions or dispute them if you didn't recognise them, before cancelling your card? You say you can't find out who they are from but who did you ask? 3 is a BIG giveaway especially if you have a 3 phone!
Don't you remember topping up your mobile/taking out the contract? Who told you it's quite a scam? Your bank, kalkajim or Mr John Lewis?

If you do an internet top up for a 3G "pay as you go" internet dongle it will show 3-Maidenhead on the Bank/credit card statement.

Good for you.
You may get a better response to your query if you post a new thread not on this old one.
