Tesco, old TV trade in. Up to £100 off new TV
Not sure if this has been posted anywhere on the forum, I did do a search which didn't come up with anything.
As of this week, Tesco have introduced a scheme where you can trade in your old tv for a big discount off a brand new SONY set. So long as your old TV works and has a remote, there is no limitation on the size, make or model of the TV you're trading in.
Trade ins for sony tvs 32" or lower are worth £50 off the price of the tv, and trade ins for TVs 37" and higher are worth £100 off. Most stores have currently got a 37" full hd, 100hz lcd with freesat HD built in, available at £549, but with the £100 discount if you trade in an old tv, you can pick it up for £449 which is a bargain!
Key points:
- Trade in any old working tv, regardless make size or model (providing it works, is not damaged, and has a remote).
- Receive a discount of up to £100 off a new sony tv
- 32" or less = £50 discount
- 37" or above = £100 discount
- Great way to get rid of old ugly tvs in an environmentally friendly way
Anybody seen anything on this offer, or even benefited from it yet?

I have a 47" LED Widescreen 1080p HD tele thats a bit rough around the edges after spending a few days being carted in and out of court for a class action against an online retailer. Do you reckon its worth 100 quid?

Just tried Sony and yes they are doing the £100 off with trade-in. But not much use when the TV is £200 more than Tesco are offering it for...

There could be a good twist to this. The promo is being run by Sony so all retailers should honour it. They did when it was run a few months ago.
Buy the Sony TV from Currys, get the trade in price and if the TV is over £599 for every Goal England score during the World Cup you get £10 cash back
Also if you don't have a TV to trade in, British Heart Foundation Furniture Stores have TVs starting from £15, you still save £85 and help charity
If time is money and you can have a no spend day. Why can't I freeze time?

Oh well, got one....£100 for my old CRT...in the end the 37" model cost £445. Not bad for a freesat HD and freeview. The poor bloke in Tesco nearly broke his back trying to lift my old TV.

Legal requirement
All retailers selling electronic goods have a legal requirement to take any old equipment you have (even if they don't sell you something new) OR they have to give you information about a place you can take it and pay that place, i.e. the local CA site.
By doing this they are taking the 1st, and cheaper, option as they then can have control over who recycles the goods. The mark up on the TVs is so huge and the savings quite good and thus Sony are laughing all the way to the bank.
Your best bet is actually to go to the Sony store with a specific model in mind and the prices charged for it by other stores including online retailers, get your trade in discount and then haggle like mad. Any sales man who can't give you another £50-£100 off of a £500ish model isn't worth speaking to - go straight to the manager!

So £549 minus £100 from SONY = £449
8% quidco = £35.92 = £413
1098 clubcard points = approximately £10
So just over £400 for this tele is a bit of a deal then???
Can anyone suggest otherwise before I buy it, thanks

Re. the inbuilt Freeview, I guess this isnt the sort you can record from? I have a recordable Freeview box at present, how could I replicate this if I go for this deal? Would I need to buy another Freeview box to go with it? Is there such a thing as inbuilt recordable Freeview?
thanks
