Default How long does it take the DVLA to update your driving licence?

As I have moved into my new flat, I posted off my photocard licence and green counterpoint form together on Friday 16th April and I still haven't received it yet. What happens if the police demand you to let them see your licence (have a week to show this)?

I always keep a photo copy of mine when I have had to send it off. Not the real thing and cant be used in reality. The Police can check with DVLA if you have sent it in for a renewal.

Thought you had 14 days to produce a licence, and that would be a reasonable excuse to have it extended if it didnt come back in time.

It is also worth keeping a copy as DVLA have issued renewals minus some driving catagories, in particular motorcycle, resulting in people having to retake their test, despite evidence that they have held that catagory for years.

Renew online and then return the old one once the new one is received, that way if they c0ck it up you still have a valid one!

My husband sent of for his renewal on a Tuesday and had it back following the Monday morning.
So not quite a week in his case.

Me too Mrs Tittlemouse, i've just sent mine off because of a change of address, I dont drive at the moment which is fortunate because i've lived here now for nearly 2 years I know I know, I kept meaning to get round to it.

Any how I sent my licence off and had it back within a week. Lovely service not a hitch. So expect yours back very soon

I sorted mine for change of address last week, you can do it online! Just make sure you have your passport, as they use this to verify your ID. As long as you send off your photo card (cut in half) once you receive your new one. I filled out the form on the Friday evening and I had my new license in the post on the Tuesday morning. So they're generally pretty quick, it's if you need to change your name or photo it takes longer, I believe.

Apparently as from this month (april) you can now do it all at the post office!
