Lightbulb Upgrading Barclaycard Gold

Hi all, and happy new year.

I just wanted to ask if anyone knew the minimum limit required to upgrade to a Barclaycard Platinum.

My current Gold card has a APR of 14.9% purchases and 21.0% cash advances. I have held it for 9 months, and have a limit for 2450. I used my barclaycard for everything, (even McDonals) and normally pay off 50% to 100% of the balance every month.

I've asked Barclaycard customer services, and they just say I dont qualify.

Any help would be much apperiated.

According to http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/Product.../platinum.html the Platinum card is 17.9% for purchases and 21.9% for cash advances.

As you don't always clear your balance monthly, your (purchase) borrowings will be 20% more expensive - surely?

When you say "I just wanted to ask if anyone knew the minimum limit required to upgrade to a Barclaycard Platinum", what do you mean? Do you mean the credit limit that they will give you? If so, then it's 'subject to status'.

I dont mean the credit they will give me.

Exisiting customers whom wish to upgrade their accounts need to have a certain credit limit before they are upgraded

For example, when upgrading to a Gold card, a 1500 credit limit is required on the account.

Also my APR wont change, as it didn't changed when i was upgraded before.

I wanted to know what limit an existing customer needed to upgrade to the Platinum card.

From what i understand you can upgrade in the following order.

Classic
Gold
Platinum
Simplicity

As you can see in order to upgrade to a simplicity card (6.9%) I first need a platinum card. Also i have a default, so i can not apply anywhere else.

I have just contacted barclaycard through there website asking for a lower intrest rate on my barclaycard. I think they were charging me arround 19%. They contacted me back and said the following

Thank you for your email.

In order to review your account to reduce the interest rate, I have
forwarded your e-mail to the relevant department. You should receive a
reply from them in 7 days.

Also, I note that your account is eligible for an upgrade to a Gold
account, please e-mail me back by 'Reply' confirming whether you wish us
to upgrade your account and I will assist you further.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

This was the reply I got when I asked to upgrade from plat to simplicity.....

Simplicity is a new product that we are currently trialling and is only
available to new customers.
However, this does not mean that you, as an existing Barclaycard
customer, have to lose out:
We offer very competitive Balance Transfer rates for existing customers
(currently 6.9% for the
life of the balance). From time to time you might also receive
promotional balance transfer offers
from us through the post, which are worth looking out for.

Anyone managed to get simplicity as an upgrade?

Hi

I called and asked. Went from a classic to a Platinum straight away, asked for a credit limit increase and was accepted again straight away from 4k to 9k.

Smile credit limit increase

I originally contacted them through the online barclaycard site, through the contact us. I then told them i was not happy with the intrest i was paying and could they reduce it in anyway, as i was going to close my account. They replied telling me that it was being passed on to another department dealing with the intrest. In the same e mail they said i was eligible to upgrade to a gold account. I replied saying i was happy to upgrade, but was it lower intrest, and was the credit limit higher. Again they replied saying the intrest was now interest rate will be 11.9% and 17%
interest will be charged
for all cash advances for a Gold account. So all in all it was via the website via contact us. I have only ever used this account for purchases and there now is a zero balance having paid off 870.00 last statement.

Cima, I've just replied to your PM.

Are you sure you can't get a better card from another provider? Before I got upgraded to Platinum, I'd been late and missed a couple of payments. But I also bank with them, so that might help.

The more products you have with Barclays, the more they like upgrading. I also have a Platinum current account and that was also arranged for me without asking. The reason I qualified was because I held a Goldcard and a loan of 5000. If you go to the Barclays bank site, it lists all the requirements for each type of account.

I can't see where it lists the requirements for a platinum credit card though.

The only thing you can do, is phone and ask what the requirements are. I find with Barclaycard, the sweeter you are on the phone, the more likely they are to want to do things for you. Don't bother with online, go for the personal touch!

I've just got off the phone to Barclaycard after reading the credit card shuffle article. Basically asked them if they could offer me a better rate than my current 19.9. My limit with them is only 400 currently a graduate card.

So they said they'd try to upgrade me to a Gold card. Somehow I don't see them giving me it. All I asked for was a better rate and didn't mention anything about credit limits.

Is it possible to get a gold card with such a low limit?

Paul.
