For JSA Contribution based you need to take two forms of ID (one photo, one proof of address) plus your last pay slip. I wasn't told about bank statements but then maybe you are applying for Income Based JSA.
I'm not an expert but I don't think having an extra £900 will affect your claim unless it takes you over £6000 in savings. The rates are standard depending on your circumstances http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/WorkingAgeBenefits/Jobseekerallowance/index.html0 -
You need to get a statement from your bank. (They won't accept one from the cash machine!) It has to show at least the last 6 months of transactions.
You shouldn't worry about the amount in there. You are allowed, (I think it is ) about £6000 now but have to be wary, because after the first £2500 they start knocking money off you're benefit because they say that is the amount you are earning in interest. Figures might be slightly wrong but round about!!! Hope this helps.0 -

My partner was on JSA recently. There was no requirement at all that he had to take even one bank statement in, let alone the past 6 months! Hell, some people claiming JSA do not even HAVE a bank account. Where is this bank statement info coming from? All you should need is photo ID and your national insurance number0 -

Yep, I was only asked for 1 months bank statement. I took in my passport, NI number and letter of redundancy from my previous employer, plus statements of any savings I had. I'm on contributions based JSA so don't know if that is any different from income based.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

When I signed on last year, I was asked to provide 6 months bank statements, my ISA statements, my building society account details and take along my passport. At the time I was claiming contribution-based JSA, I am now on income-based JSA and had to show everything again because they just wouldn't transfer me across, I had to re-apply. I even had to give details and values of any shares that I held. I also had to provide my National Insurance number.
You are allowed to have £6000 in savings.
These days, you have to have a bank account because JSA is paid directly into it, the only time you get a giro these days is if you are on a work trial and you go in each week for expenses - currently £3 a day for travelling and £3 a day for lunch.Semper in faeces profundum variat
Make £5 a day challenge Oct 2014 £126.00/£155
Make £5 a day challenge Nov 2014 £157.40/£150

You can take a variety of documents to prove your identity, you don't need photo ID.
Normally they want 2 months bank statements.0 -

Thank You Horace for backing me up!!! I am on Jobseekers at the moment and have had to do all the above!
I was also unlucky enough to be made redundant previous to this occasion ( 4 years ago) and had to do the very same thing with bank statements etc.
To the people who havn't had to jump through hoops - then you are very lucky!0
