Hi,
I declared myself bankrupt in 1995-will this still appear on my credit records? If I'm asked by home insurance companies if I have ever been bankrupt and say yes will this be logged against my name? I never seem to get away from this thing and 22 years later it still follows me around. If I were ever to come into money via inheritance would I need to declare my bankruptcy then?
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Hi moosegirl
Bankruptcy can only be recorded on your credit file for 6 years, so yours will no longer be showing. If you are asked the bankruptcy question on an application you must answer honestly, otherwise it could cause issues in the future. However given how old the bankruptcy is you may find it has very little impact now anyway.
Anyone who has been discharged from bankruptcy (and is no longer in an IPA) does not have to declare any changes in their circumstances. Hope this helps.

Hi Susie,
That's great thanks. I guess it's just best to say when it was and be honest. I just find it hard emotionally sometimes that it keeps cropping up! I was randomly asked by an insurance renewal and it threw me a bit.

Hi,
Would you be able to explain exact process and step by step how to declare my self bankrupt? How is this going to affect my future and what household items I will have to sell/lose ?
thank you for your help.

Hi its best to start your own thread but in the meantime read all the stickies at the top of the page, go on the I.S site and read, read and read as much as you can. Then come back here and ask any questions.
To be honest it would take us a long time and a very long post to tell you all about the process, so read as much as you can and we will fill in the gaps.0 -
Hi Lukasz
I agree with everything luvchocolate says above. Just to add that we have a simple beginner's guide to bankruptcy you may find useful:
