My son has started nursery school.
We get the 30 hours free childcare and he attends for 3 days a week.
He does from 8:30am to 3:00pm with half an hour for lunch.
We have been invoiced today for £2.50 per day for half an hours 'lunch cover'.
He takes a packed lunch so we aren't paying for a hot meal.
Is this standard practice that they can charge for lunch cover and it's not included in his free hours?
Thanks in advance.

8.30-3.00 is 6.5 hours, so 32.5 hours a week, and only 30 hours are free, so the extra 2.5 hours need paying for.Zebras rock0

When my daughter attended nursery (3 days a week) they did morning sessions and afternoon sessions. Some kids did just mornings, some did just afternoons and some like mine did both morning and afternoon but to save us having to collect child in between sessions the nursery offered an extra service, a lunch link which was chargeable but didn't include food.
I'm guessing your nursery is offering a similar service. If my posts have random wrong words, please blame the damn autocorrect not me0 -
We have since contacted the local council and it is as you explained above.
£2.50 per child per day. They are making a killing on top.
I assume none of the staff looking after the children will actually see any of the money and it'll line the pockets of the governers etc.
Thanks for the reply!0 -

If you think they are making a killing on the 30 hours free childcare, you are deluded.
the Gov rate is FAR below the normal charges for childcare, these charges are in some cases all that keeps the nursery open!0 -
First they have to ask, why shouldnt they charge you?0
