Don't know how I've managed to sleep at nights without a smart meter.

    Haven't got one.

    Don't want one.

Don't need to supply any reason(s) why I don't want one either.

I'm sure I'll survive the ordeal of not having a smart meter.

    Cheers

And they did, it was called the iPod Touch

  • I love reading the nay-sayers and scare mongering on threads like this, it really brightens up my day.

    Thank you all :T :T :T

If your current meter is at least 12 years old, expect to be on the list for a new meter to be installed, if they fit a 'smart' meter then that is their choice not yours as the meter does belong to them and not you.

If it is a smart meter the fitter will explain fully on how to take your own readings, you will also be left a leaflet to this effect so any problems in that area that you don't understand will be addressed at the time of fitting.

"Do I have to have a smart meter?

While government and Ofgem believe that all consumers will benefit from having smart meters, they aren’t compulsory and you can choose not to have one.

Choosing not to have a smart meter installed may mean you don’t have access to all the available tariffs on the market, some of which could be cheaper.

If you do not want to have a smart meter installed now, you will still be able to have one installed (free of charge) at a later date."

I'm so dumb because I haven't got a smart meter.

    OR should that be...

I'm so smart because I haven't got a dumb meter?

I received a letter from sse suggesting I should call them to book a slot to have one fitted.

    I certainly don't want one.

I intend to ignore. Will they send lots more letters?

You are not required by law to have a smart meter and I would advise against them. Smart meters also were talked about on BBC watchdog, with fires and problems with the smart meters.

Tell SSE you dont want a smart meter fitted but any other type is fine.

So I would not get one, as it's big brother in you house.
Nothing wrong with a dumb meter. :)
