    Hello Tink,

It's heartbreaking to read about how you are feeling - I know this so well. I send you lots of good wishes that you find a way out that is good for you and your daughter.

Thoughts on mortgage sound like are they are motivational - in which case, keep thinking!
I know when I was trying to save up, it was so inspirational to look on estate agents' websites!

Sorry to hear about your eggshells feeling but glad that you have had a lovely time with your DD. And it's good that you are thinking about both an EF and a deposit fund - one could always turn into the other, too.

I second MT's recommendations for the YNAB videos and support - it took me a little while to get used to it but I'm sure you're all bored of hearing how much I love it now :rotfl::o

I've actually got lots of different accounts in lots of different places. If you have less than £2K to save then have a look at the TSB account that gives 5% interest. It's a current account, but pays far more in interest than any easy access savings account I'm aware of.

Hi MT. I was thinking about doing this as its too easy to transfer money when it's within the same bank. I was thinking about the tesco on line savings account and maybe get a book savings account with nationwide. That way I can't touch it as easy. What do you think?

Hi Catriona. I have had thoughts today that I wish I hadn't seen the house. It's so perfect for me, DD and our doggie. Nice size and good sized garden with a new kitchen. Maybe one day.

  • I can't wait for Friday so I can finally update my signature. I think going through this is teaching DD the value of money as she loves doing the receipts on the apps and said she will use them when she gets older.

Things with OH haven't been good tonight. He's been quiet and took himself off to bed ages ago. Tried to arrange a cheap trip out somewhere one weekend but just says he doesn't want to do things like that. He used to so now that's given me the feeling he doesn't want me here as much as I don't want to be. Think we might have to have a chat at the weekend. Things can't go on like this. Although he doesn't like talking about feelings so probably won't get a straight answer.

Didn't get anything done on my list today. A couple of appointments got delayed which set me back so going to get them all done tomorrow.

    Take care everyone.

    Hello Tink,
In my opinion I always go for the accounts that have rewards. I have a tesco online savings account which I don't use as it doesn't give me anything back for letting them look after my money. What I do have is a TSB account that I only use online (and have a phone app to keep an eye on it), a Halifax reward account and a Santander cashback account. The perfect thing with the TSB account is that it pays 5% on up to £2K with no real criteria requirements other than transferring £500 into the account each month (which gets transferred back out about 10 minutes after). I have 2 DD's set up to leave my Halifax account to qualify me for the £5 a month, and I have all of the other DD's going out of my Santander account as I get around £6 a month cashback for paying those bills out of that account. They do take £2 account fee back from that though.

I find that it's harder to remove money from an account paying me 5% to keep it in there than it is to log on and transfer money out of an account doing nothing for my business.

However, whatever you do to keep finances organised for you and helping you put aside money for the things you really want is never a bad thing, no matter what account you use.

    I hope that helps. MTx
  • Hmmm not a good day. Received payslip and my SSP and holidays taken outweighs my wage so no money from wages:eek:. Have to get through the next month relying on tax credits etc. I will manage it but it will be very tight. Just can't start saving etc until next month now grrrr

    Tomorrow is another day :o
