car insurance

I returned to the UK after working in Germany for 4 years then moving to Cyprus for 1 year and have a NCD certificate issued by the Cypriot insurer for 9 years (same company as that I used for Germany). The best UK deal I found was for just under £400 but when I stated my NCD was issued in Cyprus the cost went up to £8000 - for a car worth about £2000 (2008 Ford Fiesta) ! Does anyone have any suggestions for reasonably priced car insurance ?

Haven't done this myself, but failing any better suggestions try a forces specialist insurer (e.g. forces mutual) or an insurance broker who knows the market rather than a 'computer says no' online service.
Also, try asking on a forces site (arrse, pprune, etc)?
Hope that helps!0 -
Many thanks tocsin. I started out with Forces Mutual - who insured me in Germany and Cyprus - and their premium for UK insurance is £800. As other insurers offer premiums of less than half that price I thought I'd ask around. I will now go to arrse and the other forces sites.0
