Combo Breaker First Anniversary

Hi, I love the fact that my mobile is so cheap as i'm now out of contract. The thought of paying £20, £30 or even £40 + on a mobile a month now seems crazy to me. Lots of people seem to jump through hoops trying to keep up with ever changing phones but do they make your life any better?

whos with me? let me know what mobile you have, how old and how much a month?

    Iphone4 bought in April 2011. Bought outright so on a SIM only contract.
    I am paying £12 (ish) a month.

    iPhone 7, so about six months old but bought outright (paid the £700 and transferred to interest free credit card). My monthly contract is £12 for 4GB of data with Three.
    I switched to iPhone 7 from a three year old 5S. Every three years seems reasonable for iPhone upgrade. I would never buy iPhone as part of a contract, it costs several hundred more than SIM-free.

    I bought my One Plus One in May 2014.
    It is currently running the latest version of android (upto and including the March 5th Security patches). So no worries about security, up to date apps etc in using an old phone.

    Although I do have the Sony XZ Premium on pre order for when it is released in May. This is paid for by saving the difference between what my sim cost and contract with a phone cost. Exactly the same way as I paid for my current phone.

    Depends upon what you mean by mobile phone really .
    First car phone about £1100 from a guy in Stoke on Trent .
    Followed by the mobile brick .
    First small modern mobile circa 1999 .

    I have a fantastic android phone that cost me £85 about a year ago. Sim only contract.

    I too laugh at anyone on a £40+ per month contract with an Apple/Samsung phone. Baaaaa.

    Wow! I can't believe they still work! Haven't you been slightly tempted to upgrade?!

    I thought I was doing well by using a five-year old Samsung Galaxy S2.

    All my main mibiles are 10 years old and going strong. My bundles are free so it all costs me zilch. I've never understood why people are happy to pay a fortune for their mobile use, unless they really do need a modern smartphone.

    I got my first smart phone in 2002. I'm on my fourth now.

    I've always used their smart capabilities more than as a phone. I've been on PAYG since 1999 and my call costs have rarely been more than £10 a year, usually much less.

    The first is easy. I only do cashback deals which earn a profit (except for a one-off free sim contract 3 years ago which is the only contract I've ever kept running after the minimum term and now costs me the princely sum of 43p per month with a reasonable bundle which includes all 08 numbers).

    The second is because I have been known to have about 10 or 11 simultaneous cashback contracts running at a given time - and watching over that many for other people in addition. However, cashback deals have seen thin pickings in recent times. Having said that, I've just ordered 3 of them in 3 days.
