  • I've bookmarked the site, thank you! It seems as tho you can read them without a reader also if I've read it correctly. LOL

    Thanks again :)

  • Here is another site that has a lot of books on it. It seems most are very old and obscure books, yet you might find something you enjoy there.

There's the Gutenberg Project, been going for years. Unless you go down the route of pirated stuff, most of what you will find for free is going to be old material which is out of copyright so can legally be made available for free by the likes of the Gutenberg Project. Still gives you the likes of Lear, Poe, Dickens, Austen, Conan Doyle, Twain, Milton, Wilde, etc. Plenty to keep you going.

  • I am rather tempted by one of these but I cannot believe the price of the books! They seem to be charging the same as the full price hardbacks!
Surely its much cheaper to produce the electronic version of the book rather than paper, print, distribute etc? You would also think the electronic version could be produced directly from the authors original manuscript in this digital day and age so the amount of work involved producing them should be tiny?
Why isn't this reflected in the consumer price? Until they realise this an sort it out I cannot see them shifting many units.
Surely the kind of person who would want an ereader have all the books you can get for free anyway?
Sometimes you get what you deserve... :cool2:

First Anniversary Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I got a Sony ereader for Christmas too. :) Here are a few sites I have found - but like matimage, I am shocked at the price of ebooks - and the lack of availability too...

    http://manybooks.net/
    Lots of free ebooks

    https://www.booksonboard.com
Not free, but the cheapest I have found for new titles etc.

    https://www.ebooks.com/
Not quite as cheap as Books on Board, but has a bigger range.

If anyone knows of any others please do post them, I'd be ever so grateful!

i use many books too- especially as you can set the downloaded file to be the format used on the reader.
The prices are astronomical if you consider the work needed.
If you look at books from the early 20th century, you may find them interesting.
I am waiting until the price comes down before paying for them.
  • This site gives links to 20 sites to download free e-books of varying subjects.
Haven't used myself by may be worth a look

  • I think a lot of the price of an e-book is for royalties etc - that's why the earlier ones are free. The cost of printing is negligible in the sort of quantities they print them in.

I want an e-book reader - have a house full of books, everyone of them has been read, have no more space but can't bear to part with them!
