You always seem so knowledgeable, I presume you work in some sort of Social Care capacity, apologies if I am wrong.

I wish I was more enlightened to how the costs and assessments for help with entitlement towards costs in private care homes is worked out.
We already know that Mum would have to meet the full cost of any care at home and we believe that the only home she would ever consider; as a very last option; costs the best part of £1,000.00 per week.

Holy hell. That is significant more than the average, but then again if she has to pay she may as well have somewhere lovely whilst she can afford it. She will then have to move somewhere cheaper... which is cruel. Hope you get it all sorted. xxx

    another question

I always find it horribly difficult trying to blow dry with the vented brush in one hand and the hairdryer in another. I wondered if there was such a thing as a hairdryer brush that combines both so I only need one hand
On Amazon there seems to be numerous of this type if thing, ceramic - all costing in the mid £20s - I have no idea which one is better than another ...
So what do I need to particularly look out for, what features should be on the short list
    any recommendations?

    Evening All.
MHOC, you should be able to transfer your number quite easily from EE to EE, but if they get arsey about it, they cant stop you transferring it to a PAYG sim of another company, and then you could transfer it back to your new contract.

Dont know what is going on with my C&C, it said in my email/paperwork, that I would get one sharpie, but when I collected, there was ten.
There was probably ten because I think a few people must be using the no shower holder excuse, as he actually explained to me that there was a problem with the order, and the problem turned out to be the fact that the sharpies said they had a shower holder, but they didnt.

Locals, do G/town do C&C anyone know? If so, where about is it, as never noticed one.
    TIA.

As for caring for our elderly relatives - I suppose with all of us living so much longer now that this is going to be an every growing issue - not only parents but also our partners as well
and families now are smaller and more scattered about so there are less of us to do the caring.

I don't think there is a solution that fits all situations but I've told my gang that if and when the time came I would become nomadic - spend a week or two with each of them in turn and then on a cruise ship for a few weeks - cheaper than a care home :rotfl:

My nana lived independently until she was 92. I used to get her up in the morning/washed/breakfast, then return to do her lunch, same again for tea and then do the bedtime routine, whilst looking after 3 kids and no loo at home.

When she had a massive stroke, she did not know anyone and could not be left alone. The GP visited (as did my mum and aunt... 1st time for months) the GP was going to leave us to it until I raised she needed to go into a home that day. He said 'there is enough of you to care for her at home' I told him that I was totally responsible, the others did nothing and I was withdrawing all care from that day on. He organised her to go into hospital whilst a care home was sorted out, she never recovered and died 9 months later. It was the right thing to do.

With dad, he was home until he died (well I rang for an ambulance and insisted they took him into hospital as if he died at home mum would not have been able to go into the house... she would have ended up living with me :()

As soon as he died, we realised that mum has memory issues now she cannot remember who we are, but is physically well.... very soon she will have no quality of life. I have no intention of taking on the caring role with her.

There is an American woman who lives on cruise ships as it is cheaper than residential homes, so I am liking your plan. I may replicate it but
I am hoping that by the time I get old that they have brought in euthanasia... when I have no quality of life pull the plug x

That is madness. If it is not specialist help, why does he not employ somebody on a part time basis? I dont know, but is there not agencys you can go to directly?

Yep, if you are assessed as having to pay full care costs, generally because of savings, you can 'self fund' and still have some oversight/reviews from social care. In Bubbs' person's case I'm not sure if he would have the capacity to manage this himself, even via an agency.

If you employ your carers directly then you are considered as an employer and there are now added things like pension schemes to consider.
