Realistically you have as much chance of meeting a lier/not nice person out as you are on a dating site. I did try the dating site match.com years ago, got lots of emails form really old men a few decent seeming blokes but they lived 100's of miles away. Now I don't have the spare finances to go out clubbing etc or use the pay for the charging dating sites. I recently signed up for a free dating site oasis. The only thing that makes me weary about on line dating is i have seen a couple of men i know who are married on these sites (paid and free ones) stating they are single, but again they could do that in a club or when out.
For those of us who can't afford to go out clubbing and have restrictions on what we could do to meet new people ie Children and work commitments on line dating seems a really good option.
modern life no longer caters for community and meeting new people unless you go out clubbing.

I've mainly used Match on and off for about 8 years and have met some really lovely men through it... however I have not had a relationship with any of them. so I have given up with online dating, despite a number of my friends marrying people on line.

OP when you work out where all the single men are hiding then please let us know?? I have tried all sorts of things - travelling, walking groups, photography courses, singles parties, IVC, Meetup, taking up new sports, always saying yes to parties and nights out (even if I don't want to go). And nothing - they all seem to be populated by women like me!

I'm always told that I am fun, attractive, interesting... but am still single!
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

To the ladies looking for single men I think joining groups etc might not be the best idea. Speaking as a bloke I think if we like something we often just tend to do it ourselves or with a mate rather than joining a group. Only exception would be some sports, running clubs, football etc, but many will join these to improve or for competition rather than socialising.

Where are all the single blokes? Probably at home alone watching match of the day, or sky sports!

Oh dear Lord... they can stay at home then!! Seriously... then what else can we do? don't get me wrong - I'm not desperate but I would like to meet a decent man sometime before I'm 50 (I'm 32 now).

I'd guess online dating would be a good bet, as the statistics favour a far higher number of men to women on them. Although I've never tried it myself, and some of the stories I've heard have been.

If you really want to meet single guys in their day to day activities to be honest you need to think what they enjoy when by themselves, and that's why you probably never see them. You probably don't go down the pub to watch the football etc. In the same way he's not going to around at the types of place you'd have a girlie night out with your mates.

The fact some (and I'll admit I do it these days) watch silly amounts of sports is because we can. It doesn't mean that's what we would do when with someone.

I guess guys that like running may be in a running club, guys that like cycling might be in a cycling club. Gigs aren't the best place to meet folk I don't think, but most guys are passionate about some form of music. Just don't expect to find single straight men at the Take That gig! In truth most blokes I know outside sport either tend to sway between pub drunks, or home bodies that are interested in cooking/films that sort of thing. Most guys tend to be fairly heavy on one hobby and that's the sort of thing you'll find them doing in their free time.

Complete generalisation, but I do think women are more socail with their time and hobbies. Guys tend to get wrapped up in the thing rather than the people.

I met my lovely DH online but boy, do you have to kiss a lot of frogs!

The best advice I think is to trust your instincts and only ever meet for lunch for the first date (then you can make your excuses after an hour and you've not wasted precious babysitting favours.) Some of my non starters were:

The guy who had lots of hair in his profile pic then turned up with a woolly hat on, took it off and shook his (bald) head as if it had somehow messed up his hair (kind of like how people that have lost limbs say they can still feel them?)

The one who let me pay for drinks in the pub (which I was happy to do thinking he'd then pay for the light lunch) then still let me pay for half of the lunch bill then messaged to say he'd like to see me again, I'm sure he bloody did, *I'd* have wanted to see me again too!

The one that took me to the Tate gallery because he was very knowledgeable about modern art and the best bit of the whole date was when I escaped to the loo for 15 minutes. I'm normally a bit squeamish about toilet matters and men (well, anyone) but I didn't care if he thought I was having a cr*p the size of the turbine hall as long as I got a break from him!
    Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

    December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.10

Try POF( plenty of fish ) for a free site for both sexes,
Dont know what its like as I dont go on them but a mate has had a number of dates and says its free.
A friend of mine (43/f) found on POF a man that after the first coffee date expected her to partake of dubious bedtime practices involving a false appendage secured to her body with various straps.

I think internet dating is fraught with not only dangers but idiots.

    Good luck.

I think all dating is fraught with danger and idiots, not just online dating.

One reason I'm glad to have decided not to get involved with anyone in a relationship/dating type senario ever again.
