    i wanted to do the vision2learn one but was turned down because im not
    employed. im a stay at home mum,who wants to better herself,so this rule seems pointless to me...?!?:mad: :mad: :mad:

    If you don't qualify for free Open University courses, and/or just want to learn for fun/personal development rather than gaining a qualification, you might be interested in this site:

    they have recently put a huge amount of their course materials on this site, free to access for everybody.

    Note - if you want to go a step further and actually sit exams & qualify with them, you will need to enroll, and pay - unless you qualify for a fee rebate, as the earlier poster suggested. From memory, the rebates are quite generous (and even apply if you've already got a degree) fees are paid in full for single people if you earn less than £15k, you get some rebate up to earnings of £25k, earning limits are higher if you have a family. also I'd agree with the earlier poster that if you don't qualify for fee rebates it is still REALLY worth enrolling. I'm on a course at the moment and the quality of materials & support is very high indeed. I believe the OU outperformed every other university on 'value for money' in a recent survey of students.

    Lastly, if you are a member of a trade union, quote 'union' to get 10% off your course fees.

    trade union members /activists might also be interested in this site from the TUC - lots of information including free online courses in health & safety, learning reps, equalities issues, etc (you will need your employers support if you are looking to do the course during working hours)

    Does anyone know of a free sign language course that I can learn at home. I am disabled so therefore unable to commute anywhere, and medically unable to work again so I have to live on benefits, and I have lost all the hearing in my right ear and 90% in the left, and I am trying to learn SL before I go totally deaf

    As well as the excellent BBC French courses posted earlier the University of Texas free online course is also excellent - indeed better than many courses which I have actually paid for!

    Not free but £15 for a 7 week online course, perhaps you could contact them and ask if they would make a concession for somene on benefits?

    Hewlett Packard have masses of free tuition covering photography, computing and printing etc. I tried the basic Photoshop course and was well impressed.
