Scrap Value of Cast Iron Bath

My old bath (1960's vintage) is currently sitting in the back garden, smashed into pieces.

Is it worth my while to sell it for scrap? How much is it worth?

    Zero, zip, nothing.
  • cut it in half, soak in formaldahyde(sp?), and sell to some dumb arty type for milions!
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)
  • If you can transport it to the scrapyard you might get something for it, but not much. If they agree to collect it you'll get FA.
I'm curious now as to how it got broken - I thought they were almost indestructible!
  • Good morning: The OH (plumbing & heating) took 140 kg of scrap metal (eg. radiators, bath, floor mounted boiler) to a local, reputable scrap merchant in July and received £17....same weight taken this week £2.10:eek:.

Cue an increase in dumped cars and scrap fly tipping near you.

Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)
  • Thanks for replies everyone.

The plumber smashed it up to make it easier to get out of the house.

Some years ago, my neighbour's daughter was at university in Portsmouth. She was renting a room in an old house that was being renovated and chained her bike to a cast iron bath in the front garden. The next morning she came out find that the bath had been stolen and her bike was still there.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

  • Sub £30/ton now,I believe.Down from at least£180 about 6mths ago!
  • yeah probably not worth the hassle of getting it to scrap yard!

I had a new exhaust fitted about 6mths ago, and garage tolf me to take it to scrap yard and Id get about £35-40.

Well it had sat in my garden until last weekend when I finally got round to taking it down, and I only got £15 for it :(
Was a bit annoyed to say the least
