    The Great Vegas Rip-Off

The Orleans hotel resort fee; a non-optional $20.33 per day ($142.32 for the week)

    IMG_2033.jpg

    • Complimentary in room wifi (I brought a data package with me)
    • Unlimited Local calls (like why)
    • In-Room coffee (actually true)
    • Fitness centre (2 bikes and a running machine)
    • In room safe (never saw it)
    • Shuttle service (didn't need it, was playing poker in the Rio)
    • Access to the business center (two macs in a corridor)

We have used The Orleans hotel many times over the years when in Vegas, and will be doing so again in October.
While I am the same as everyone else in loathing the resort fee at least the Orleans provides me with a few things we always need.
In room wifi has always been acceptable for us,we always use the safe for valuables and on most occasions use the shuttles to and from the strip.

Also at $20.33 a day it is still a bit cheaper than strip hotels.
Throw in the fact that you can get a great buffet breakfast each morning for $10, and usually get a cheap room rate anyway,it is still one of our favourite go to hotels while in Vegas.

Maybe just me but I thought the Orleans buffet was bland and tasteless. There's a Dennys 3 minutes walk up the road, though in honesty all I want is a banana and apple for breakfast when I want to focus for the day.

Also "complimentary" in room wifi, which you pay for, shouldn't be (1) capped below 1MB/s and (2) capped at 3 devices. I connected my ipad, iphone and laptop and then was asked to pay more to connect anything else. In 2017 the average couple will have more than 3 devices to connect

Orleans buffet is better than Denny's imho. At least you can get your money's worth in drinks if you don't like the food.

For wifi, Strip hotels are twice the price and less devices. Most are slower speeds too. At least Orleans lets you know in advance of the charge. Many places don't.

I always used to stay at Orleans and get all those things for free :( and as I posted earlier the squeezing of everything sucks

    but

1, many dont have a data package
2,I often use the local calls for restaurant bookings
    3,:)
4,I have never used a gym in Vegas
5,I always use the room safe
6, shuttle goes to the Rio
7,I have printed boarding cards in the business centre

I also think the Orleans buffet is better than Dennys, IMO almost anything is better than Dennys

Have been to mirage, planet Hollywood, harrahs, wicked spoon and Orleans in the past.

the direction you are going I would try South point $8.95 with a players card , i havent been but I think breakfast is much of a muchness and the cheaper ones all do the job like the $5 ones at the stations (with a card)

or a steak and eggs breakfast at Ellis Island

Main Street used to free all day with validation (claim your $3back)in Main Street casino, they have now put barriers and pay machines in $5 a day with no refunds and $10 a day fri and sat

So the lady with the bright green nail polish who served at the kiosk is no longer there? Shame, she was a nice lady.
They are slowing pricing us out aren't they?
If you are actually staying in a hotel that has car park charges, can you claim that back?

Please report back, and have a great trip  I've just had a baby so interested to hear how Vegas with kids goes!

We've taken my nephew and niece to Vegas numerous times, there's loads to do with them, they particularly love the kids science museum downtown and going into Circus Circus.

You just can't stop in the casinos, you're welcome to walk through but you're not allowed to stop or loiter! :rotfl:

I can vouch for both South Point and Ellis Island. Having stayed at South Point a few times. IMO due to the off strip location this is hotel is missed by many, it has a lot going for it and offers great value. Ellis Island another stop on my trip but usually in the evening.

I have bottled out of staying at Excalibur after a weekend of pouring over the reviews. I managed to get the mirage for £250 more. So I have opted for that.

I fancy trying that end of the strip too. I now just need to look for rewards I can use at weekends.
