I reckon you should be able to do most of that for little to no spend ftm. It's just a case of keeping your eyes and ears open. Bring up in conversation with people that you need to repaint rooms and they may well have paint that they want rid of.
The shed roof I'm not so sure about, I think wood's quite expensive now. We've certainly noticed the price rising over the last few years. Thankfully, I don't think we need to buy any more as (I hope) we've done all of the wood type jobs. Depends if we need any when we do the landing ceiling I suppose.
I need to get DH and his brother to do the ceiling and the hall but BiL is having a back op soon so I have no idea when he'll be fit enough. It'll have to wait until then though. He spurs DH into action really. Just as well because he's got his hall stairs and landing to be done too so the pair of them need to do that. Hopefully ours will be first as it's worse and smaller.

Hiya..yes thats what i am doing..my older girls have already been looking in charity shops for me..when i am up to it i will go into town next wk and have a look..
Only thing that will be expensive like you said is the wood for a shed roof...have just this minute pointed it out to hubby and lightbulb moment...:D..we won't do it in wood...he wants to do it that clear perspex..so that way he can use it not just for his jobs but also as an overspill from the greenhouse..and it will be cheaper..so thats a relief..

Sorry to hear about your BIL..hope all goes well for him..its so nice when you have that one person who almost pushes the other along..i'm the bulldozer in this house..:rotfl:what colour you going in the hallway..i have a nice soft grey with black lampshades and lots of retro floral wallpaper prints that i framed in cheapo frames i painted white..sounds garish but its lovely and looks like a home..sad aren't i :rotfl:

I'm currently trying to eat out of the freezer as much as possible as it's in desperate need of de-icing and I can't do anything about it until there's less stuff on the shelves. The problem I'm having is that nearly every item I take out gets cooked into something that makes more than one portion, so the excess goes back in to the freezer. :(

I have exactly the same problem. And I feel so guilty if I chuck anything. I need to stop treating the freezer as a leftover burial ground:rotfl:

    Afternoon everyone, well just.

    Hi, Ftm its been awhile.
I have been ill with a chest infection that just wont go away.
I need it gone by 23th feb as I have an appointment with a lung specialist and he wont see me if I still have it.
I have waited two years to see him, so I am being good and resting havent left the house in two weeks. The OH had been wonderful, doing all the cooking and cleaning.

I am also looking at a few rooms that need redoing, but will wait until I am better.
I do have the paint for the bedroom and bathroom so thats a start.
You have given me some ideas Ftm so while I am bed resting I can get them all down on paper.Your hall sounds lovely

PIC Well done on giving up the cigs

  • ok, so I'm glad nobody was offended by me starting a new thread - well at least not here - I started a thread about disappearing longlife cream and it seems war has broken out. I've had a PM saying I've made "inflammatory remarks" about supermarket practices which were "intended to cause offence". Best laugh I've had in ages - all because I said had anyone noticed the cream wasn't around any more!

PIC - well done on your progress - that's a real MS achievement.

FTM - my guilty stash are "25 Beautiful Homes" magazines. I buy it every month and I have a bit of a ritual - I won't read it until I have complete peace, no interruptions and can get curled up with a glass of wine or a cup of tea depending on my mood. Sometimes it's weeks before I get to it but I won't read it any other way.

    Funny creatures, aren't we?:)

    I've been Money Tipped!
FTM - I tried unsmoked river cobbler last year - I actually bought it for the cat, who wasn't allowed normal cat food for a few days on vet's orders, but couldn't resist trying a bit myself. I wasn't at all impressed, I must admit - I thought it had a funny, almost 'off' smell and didn't taste much better. :( It's most unusual for me as I usually love fish - I'll have to try the smoked stuff as that sounds much nicer from your post. (I'm pleased to say the cat had no problem with it, so it didn't go to waste. ;))

scottishminnie - I'm struggling to understand how anyone can make 'inflammatory comments' about cream, of all things - I think that deserves a :T. :rotfl:

I've got a nice easy dinner tonight, as I really must get round to making a start on my OU essay (I've only been saying that for the past week :o): a RM cheese and bacon quiche which I acquired RTC to 50p after Christmas (and froze - it hasn't been in the fridge all that time ) with HM chilli beans. And that's one extra thing out of my over-stocked freezer, too. :D
  • home made carrot soup and chucky bread sounds so much better than an activia yoghurt, cup a soup and 2 plums. I'm "using things up" at the moment and we aren't getting through fruit as fast as we should be which makes for odd assortments at lunchtime!

oh good, OP I love the idea of a new thread full of optimism

Allotment ( 8 x 100) planning has given me several very enjoyable days this winter. I even started a brand new A4 `posh` hardback notebook on the subject and all in pencil, so I can rub out without it getting messy. Sad I know but I even put in rotations for the next 4 years and the numbers of plants to put into it this year. Well tbh we are stuffing ourselves with cabbages day after day, just 4 more big ones to go as well as a whole bed of spring cabbage, which sprung too early because of the warm winter

I am one of the hardy winter thread lot that made rather large stockpiles for winter and we haven`t had any snow, unlike last year when we were snowed in for 6 weeks. I have completely overdone it and we are now eating our way through it but it is hardly being dented. 7 weeks so far and I have spent a total of £41 on milk and fruit and that is all. I have the stockpile and the allotment to thank for that

I also confess to getting too many goodies in for christmas and the winter `lock in` and they will be eaten over the next 8 (shhh) weeks or so. Someone please remind me not to go into overdrive next year

    Butternut squash soup tonight
    butternut
    some onion
    3 garlic cloves
    2 chilis
    2 tsp grated ginger
    1 .5 pints veg stock
    1 can coconut milk
saute, add stock cook 10 minutes, add coconut milk cook 5 mins. Add s and p and whizz. Its gorgeous
