May all of you wonderful Dads have a Happy Father's Day!

    ... and not forgetting ....

    Good morning lovely Alphabettys

I hope you're all well on this thoughtful and
    scrumptious sunny Sunday!

    What is Autistic Pride Day?

Autistic Pride Day is a celebration of the neurodiversity of people
on the autism spectrum on 18 June each year. It celebrates what
people with autism bring to the community and recognises their
    potential.

At Ambitious about Autism, we are ambitious for every child and
young person with autism. We know that they can achieve
incredible things with the right education and support.

We're proud to work with children and young people with autism
    and their families every day!

What are Ambitious about Autism doing to celebrate?

We're asking our youth council, youth volunteers and young people
who access our services to tell us why they're proud to be autistic.
We'll be sharing what they tell us on the day. This might be in the
form of short video clips or posters and photos.

We'll also be sharing a video from staff at Ambitious about Autism
about why they're proud to support people with autism.

    Support Autistic Pride Day

This Autistic Pride Day we're asking everybody to get involved and
share why they're proud to be autistic, to be a parent or carer to
someone who is autistic, a friend or family member, or a
professional who works with people with autism.

Let's make some noise this Autistic Pride Day.

    Resources

Download our poster, print it off and write why you're proud to be
autistic! Then share it on your social media using
#AutisticPrideDay and don't forget to tag us using
@AmbitiousAutism so we can share it too!

The Big Lunch takes place annually in June – but you can join in
and host one whenever you like. This year’s Big Lunch is on
    Sunday 18th June 2017.

The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The
aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the
UK to have lunch with their neighbours annually in June in a simple
act of community, friendship and fun.

The following pages have lots to help you get started. Whether it’s
a few neighbours coming together to share sandwiches in your
front gardens, a traditional street party or big community bash,
holding a Big Lunch is simple.

The pack contains invites, posters, activity and recipe cards,
stickers, seeds and lots of useful planning information plus friendly
faces! The download pack has posters, invites, an activity sheet
and leaflet ready to edit, save and print at home.

Feeding hay and fresh grass to support dental, digestive and
emotional health will be the key theme of this year’s Rabbit
    Awareness Week (RAW).

Now in it’s 11th year, RAW will take place 17-25 June and is being
organised by Burgess Pet Care in partnership with:

    Agria Pet Insurance
    the RSPCA
The Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund
    Wood Green, The Animals Charity
    PDSA
    Blue Cross

    Widespread misunderstanding

According to RAW, the initiative has evolved as a response to
widespread misunderstanding among the pet-owning public about
the welfare needs of the UK’s estimated 1.5 million pet rabbits.

For example, rabbits need 85% to 90% of fresh, high-quality
feeding hay and fresh grass in their diets. Yet, the PDSA Animal
Wellbeing 2016 report highlighted just 30% of owners provide
rabbits with constant access to hay for eating.

To that end, this year’s campaign is encouraging rabbit owners to
#HoptoHay to ensure they meet the essential nutritional needs of
    their rabbits.

The campaign will also educate owners on the key differences
between feeding hay and bedding hay, as well as promoting the
    five welfare needs.....

Thank you to everyone who supported us and helped make RAAW
    2016 such a success.

RA Awareness Week is an important week in the NRAS calendar.

As the name suggests, its aim is to raise awareness and challenge
misconceptions and attitudes people may have around RA.

By dedicating a week to raising awareness we aim to broaden
perceptions, knowledge and understanding of this disease

    RAAW 2017 Theme

RAAW 2017 will focus on ‘Invisible Illness’ and what goes on
    ‘Behind the Smile’.

People who break their arm or experience an injury are obviously
in bad shape but we can see their injury and understand their
limitations. But for the millions of people who are living with an
invisible illness such as rheumatoid arthritis, explaining what's
wrong is another side effect of the condition.

Not only do they have to put up with challenging, often painful,
and sometimes debilitating conditions every day, but on top of
that, they may have to face scepticism from people - friends,
family, and co-workers, as well as strangers who don't understand
    what's wrong.

Throughout the week we will be focussing on a number of different
    themes around invisible illness ......

    PPG Awareness Week - 19 - 24 June 2017

PPG Awareness Week aims to promote the role and benefits of
PPGs to patients, the public and health professionals, to create
more understanding of the value of true patient participation also
to promote the support available from N.A.P.P.

Download the 2017 Resource Pack here >>>>

Dr Phil Hammond, GP turned hospital doctor,
journalist and broadcaster supporting Patient Participation
Awareness Week had this to say………

“Patients and carers are the smoke alarms for the frontline of
the NHS. They are often first to spot poor care and also have great
ideas about how to make care better. They need to be involved in
decisions not just about their care, but in designing better care for
others. Patient Participation Groups are a crucial way of
harnessing the voice of the patient in primary care, and have
much to contribute in driving up quality”

To find out more about Dr Phil Hammond visit
    www.drphilhammond.com.

There will be a national media campaign lead by N.A.P.P. and a
local campaign lead by PPGs in communities supported by the
    resource pack (see above)

Click here to see what influential health stakeholders have to say
    about patient participation >>>>

We hope that all our members (and non-members!) will join with
us to ‘make some noise’ about the excellent work groups
undertake in partnership with their practices by organising
awareness raising activities during this week even if its only
putting together a display for the waiting room!

Since 2008, World Sickle Cell Awareness Day has been held
annually, in order to help increase public knowledge and raise
awareness of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and the struggles sufferers
    and their families go through.

The date was chosen to commemorate the day on which a
resolution was officially adopted by the General Assembly of the
United Nations, recognising SCD as a public health concern.

SCD affects millions of people around the world, including both
adults and children. It is a potentially fatal disease and, according
to the World Health Organization (WHO), is one of the main causes
of premature death amongst children under the age of five in
    various African countries.

Some health groups dedicated to SCD treatment or support hold
special educational celebrations. However, even if you cannot
attend one, why not spend the day researching the illness, learning
about the signs and symptoms and increasing your understanding
    of its global impact?

    https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/world-sickle-cell-awareness-day/

    What Is Sickle Cell Disease?

The term sickle cell disease (SCD) describes a group of inherited
red blood cell disorders. People with SCD have abnormal
hemoglobin, called hemoglobin S or sickle hemoglobin, in their red
    blood cells.....
