Depends on where you are on what can be suggested, Cornwall is a beautiful County but the areas are very very different.

That is why I asked where they are, although did not explain why. I grew up in Cornwall and had similar issues when we relocated however it was a bit easier as I worked.

Know what you mean...there was a suggestion of coffee shops and suchlike...however, as you know these can be miles from where you live with only one bus a day as OP is currently unemployed, probably can't afford to run a car which makes it very limiting depending on where you are. People "up Country" just don't get it if you see what I mean...I don't wish to be rude but they just don't.

Popping for milk can be a 16 mile round trip depending on where you are :rotfl:so socialising has to be planned!

Also depends what the OP is "in" to so to speak.
  • Try to see if there is anything in the adult education, an evening class, or day course. Sewing is really hot at the moment.

Instead of gym try a class so regular people go to that time slot.

The issue you might find is you are now at the beginning of the tourist season, so people your age are probably working like crazy to earn all their money as this is the key time for them to earn.

Not sure where abouts in Cornwall you are, but there are Sailing courses they would be good to go to, and then join a sailing club and meet others.

What job are you looking for?

She's already joined a local gym, so I'm guessing she's not completely at the back of beyond.
No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...

If your Nr Bodmin they run a women's running club, There is also women's rugby & netball, TBH there is tons of Outdoor and volunteer groups in Cornwall most towns now sadly have a soup kitchen, resource have a community garden project going, there is a lot of seasonal work also going at the moment, holidays lets and caravan cleaning can be reasonably profitable (for Cornwall anyway) if you have your own transport.
Would help if you say which end of Cornwall you are.

loztredders, we're making the big move in 6 weeks and will be in the same boat (except I'm moving for my job :) ) we're moving around the Truro area, where do you live?

Being a very sociable person I feel I may struggle to begin with so would be nice to meet some people!!
  • I moved to Truro a couple of years ago - and one of my best mates came from this very forum. Happy to do a small group meet if people want? Or indeed, if I can be of help scoping things out ahead of time.

Haha.. this is weird! Maybe you should be my friend soon?! My OH is seriously considering a job in Cornwall that he is in the running for. His family also live in Cornwall and we currently live in Worcester. Just a couple o' years younger than you! DO DO DO DO!!
Ideally the line of work I want to get involved in is personal training and gym instructing, I'm currently Nvq2 trained and doing my level 3 which will complete in august. Right now I'm applying for pretty much and job though!

wow that is pretty strange! !
Well let me know if you do move down here:-D
I'm in St Austell. Which isn't too far from truro for a meet and greet! !
And Liskeard is Pretty close too! Wow lots of cornwall folk on here :-)
Thanks everyone for input and suggestions I shall look into these ideas further.
Luckily I'm not a million miles from civilization, St Austell is fairly busy etc but I am still learning to drive which makes all this a little more isolating but trains to truro etc are pretty good and regular
