Does anyone here use either of these websites? I've been a Streetlife member before and have now been asked to migrate my account to Nextdoor, but this seems to be poorly set up in privacy terms as you have to have a full name and your street name on your profile.

Rum rat I am not advertising any website. I have signed up for kahuti but I honestly couldn't recommend it yet as I haven't spent enough time on it to work out how to use it! I'm just looking for something to replace Streetlife.

    Surrey/West London alternative to Nextdoor
Like many of you was horrified by the privacy issues on Nextdoor & the censorship that is taking place on Streetlife now they have taken control to stop anyone complaining that what they are doing is wrong for the UK.
So in our area of the world I have gone ahead and set up a free forum with full privacy control so our neighbourhood doesn't lose touch with each other.
We are 200 strong already and growing so if your near us check out the site at mystreetlink or send me a message for the link 👍

    Thank you 😊

    Just joined here.
I was just searching for others that were really annoyed at the way Streelife sold out to Next door.
I was a member of Nextdoor for approx 5 minutes, disgusted seeing my full name and address showing, had I known that I would never have joined, searching quickly I found I could only take out my house number.
I loved Streetlife, I joined this Kahuti only to find there is no other members in my area, wouldn't mind being able to see all members wherever they live.
    moan over. ☺️

There was a post today on my local streetlife encouraging people to come on over to Nextdoor. I replied about missing streetlife - my area had over 2300 members - and mentioned about how I had already signed up to Kahuti and mylocalforum - I'll let everyone here if it gets censored!
I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard

Pointless moving to anything.......as soon as it gets enough members Nextdoor will make it another acquisition target and you'll be back to square one.
Whilst this may be true, it might make Nextdoor change their privacy levels if people continue to jump ship. And yes I am a jumper myself, as soon as I saw what joining Nextdoor entailed.

    Streetlife / Nextdoor
It seems ironic that "in the interests of privacy" (so we are told by Nextdoor) we are required to give our full address & other details and these, it seems, are shown to all. That may be privacy as known in the US but it doesn't sit well in the UK. And to those who say it would be easy to find out people's addresses anyway, I would say not so. I gave Streetlife the areas I was interested in (more than one area on Streetlife, again not so on Nextdoor, as I understand it) and my first name with an initial. I don't think that is tantamount to announcing my address. Plus I don't want to be confined to a small area. West London is good enough for me, whether it be Shepherds Bush or Battersea. Streetlife was wonderful and I shall miss it but I don't think Nextdoor has any understanding of London/the UK whatsoever and I won't be going there.

An alternative just starting up in very embryonic phase is: mystreetlink. I'm not allowed to post the full address but you'll find it on google. In time it might be a good replacement to Streetlife for west Londoners & Surreysiders.

Kahuti.com recommended as a fabulous alternative that could be even better than Streetlife. Like a sweetshop you can pick and choose what you want from it.

I am in North London and like others we have also lost a fantastic active community asset in Streetlife. There are various Facebook and small websites springing up all over the UK to try and plug that gap, but unfortunately without a lot of the facilities that we all enjoyed, and I am sure some will agree not everyone is keen on Facebook. I have also tried Streetbank and myStreetlink, and yes they serve a purpose but not some of the benefits

As soon on this forum a number of us throughout the UK have very recently found a new site Kahuti. It was set up specifically at the request of several Streetlife members and the results are incredible. Because of the speed of the set up it is not yet fully polished but the possibilities are endless. It feels like you are part of a new adventure whilst also catching up with former SL friends and also making new friends further afield.

    Key points.

    • People choose a name to display, and disclosing an area/ town is optional. Privacy is a key principle.
It enables posts, and conversations to go out on a radius basis ranging from 1mile to 25miles, and if people are on the outskirts of that area, posts and messages can go much further. My own area based on an Enfield setting now covers over 532 members locally and beyond, so I can select three miles if I just want very local information, or further for wider conversations. It is also planned that there will be a facility for people to have a further location link, if they have friends etc in another area.

    • Includes the facility to Private Message and add people as friends. There are also plans to enable people to set up Groups if needed.
    • Categories to post under, and plans for an events calendar.
    • There are also lots of other features being added, mainly as a result of the owners being very open about receiving comments/ feedback and then working hard to enable things to happen.
    • A feedback button at the bottom of the page invite feedback and a navigation button at the bottom of posts lists all the work in progress.
I had intended to copy some of the really positive feedback on the site from ex Streetlifers but conscious this is a long post. Please have a look and see what people think, and share with others if helpful.

[rant ]this thread is developing as a marketing exercise. FFS why don't people get out and meet faces and names, swap phone numbers, email addresses and get a real life. This a Techie Forum isn't it ?
If you don't want your details spread about don't sign up, oh and I can't wait until people come on here and ask "My (insert name) account has been hacked" or "(insert name) has been hacked and 500 million users details have been compromised"[/rant]

Even then there are hackers, ask eBay and TalkTalk!!

Why even use your real first name. use Lastpass to create different identity profiles and use it to login /remember passwords.

I do not know what these sites do but I do not want to, I remember something coming through the door and going in the bin.

    Apologies
Apologies UXB. What I meant to say was Kahuti was launched in the UK specifically at the request of Uk Streetlife members. You are absolutely right about when and where it was formed outside of UK.

Perhaps those who are not interested in Streetlife replacements could just not read this thread?

Streetlife was a very successful/useful/popular/much loved community social medium, which was sadly closed down at very short notice, leaving affected communities struggling to find an alternative before they are all scattered.

I think this is the reason several first time posters are here trying to spread the word about Kahuti (and other Streetlife alternatives). (When you Google Streetlife alternatives, this thread is first on the list.)

NextDoor doesn't really seem to work as a straight substitute for Streetlife as the ND local areas are much smaller and therefore do not include many of those in the Streetlife communities.

This is not to say that Nextdoor can't fulfill a useful community role in the UK - it seems to have plenty of potential and I'm planning to continue on ND - but it is not a Streetlife replacement.

Anyone trying to maintain their Streetlife communities are racing against time to publicise alternatives so people have a choice of where to go next.

PS The Kahuti website is: https://www.kahuti.com

If you do decide to move from Nextdoor to Kahuti (or another alternative), it would be a good idea to post about it on Nextdoor so others in your area can also check out the alternative(s). Getting a critical mass of people on local social media is (ahem) critical....

I'm wanting to change the boundary on my neighbourhood to make it bigger, but I have to wait 21 days before I get the right to change it which happens to be tomorrow. Wanted to do it sooner but Nextdoor is ignoring my messages for support which Jennifer their bot recommends I do in the automated emails.

Well I've just been sent this email from bot Jennifer

    Hi,

Great news! The 'street' pilot has 3 verified members and is on its way to becoming a permanent website. You still need 7 more verified members to officially launch. To help you get there, we have extended your pilot for another 21 days.

Please don't hesitate to let us know if there's anything we can do to help launch your street.
    Best,
    The Nextdoor Team
I have let you know but you're ignoring me I'll help myself by deactivating my account.

There is now a permanent UK based alternative site to the american Nextdoor or Kahuti.
Go to mystreetlink .com and check us out.
Members have full privacy and we now have national coverage.
We are trying to keep the spirit of the old Streetlife alive so come and say hi to some real neighbours
